7-10 days should be no big deal.
We full time in north Houston. We are away for 2 months at a time. We've typically left the fridge on and had someone check it periodically to make sure rain or sprinklers didn't shut it off, but it shut off last time and no one caught it in time. Basically the same process we follow for our house in NC.
Otherwise, this is how we leave it:
Warm weather
1. AC on 80
2. Fridge empty, off, open
3. Water off and disconnected in case of inadvertent turn on - relieve pressure at faucet
4. Slides out - this doesn't matter - just makes it nicer coming home
5. Dryer sheets in hidden areas to slow down critters
6. house totally clean and made up for a nicer welcome home
7. Extra water in toilet bowl with seat and lid up to reduce seal drying and mildew in bowl
8. Water heater power off - inside and at the heater
Cold weather
1. No heat or air
2. Water system drained and blown out with air
3. All others same as above
YMMV
