Toilet Lubrication
I started out using silicone spray, but a thin film just doesn't last very long. I now use silicone grease. You can probably get it at most hardware stores, Home Depot and Lowes. I saw it today at Ace.
"ACE" SILICONE GREASE *1/2 fl. oz. *For rubber and synthetic "O" rings *No petroleum additives *Waterproof, non-staining, non-toxic, non-flammable *450 deg. F max *90% pure
Product name: "ACE" SILICONE GREASE
I turn my water off, use a disposable glove and put a thin film on the seal and also the ball. It will last much longer than silicone spray.

Wonder if you should use that on a new seal? I suppose it wouldn't hurt anything.

I just dump a little vegetable oil on it every now and then.

I agree, using any lube will build up on the moving parts and start smelling...bad. also the design is not meant for a lube, if the seal is leaking, it is best to just replace it. JMHO...

You can get the silicone grease at any pool store also. We use a little olive oil.

We use nothing. The toilets have been one of the things that have never been a problem. Guess we have just been lucky.

I finally fixed mine. I tried Pam, Silicone rubber slide lube and the snapping it closed. The snapping it closed was not well accepted during the "wee" hours of the morning!" I totally disassembled the whole unit and found that the black shaft on pedal side of the unit (the shaft that is connected to the half round valve that closes the big hole) was over-sized. This shaft was such a tight fit and was binding and not allowing the valve to close unless it was snapped closed. After much cleaning I removed the two "O" rings and put the shaft in my drill and with a fine sand paper sanded the shaft to a smaller size. I lubed it liberally with Vaseline and now it works so very smooth and no leaks. DW is much happier and sleeps better too.
This was posted in Sept 09 under "Toilet stopper not stopping" along with many other solutions to the problem.
Still working without a hitch today 12/12/12

I had this problem on my toilet and its replacement. Called the manufacturer and they said there was an issue with the water valve and sent me a replacement valve kit. I replaced the water valve and not only did the slow leak go away, the domed closure now works with no drag and no leakage. Opening and closure works with with a secure, clean action. Bought another valve kit in case this one should wear out. Valve kits do not seem to be readily available at many RV dealers parts area. Found what I needed on Amazon. $17 for a valve kit is much cheaper than a new toilet.
