Is there a cure?

My wife and I bought our first RV two months ago - a Montana 3150. We love it and I am actually getting used to backing it up (shocking).

Here is my delimma and question. Since we have bought the 5er I have spent over $700 (at least) at Camping World and another $1,900 today on a pair of generators. Question - is there a cure for going to the Camping World catalog on a regular basis and finding something else you "have" to have? How long does this dreaded disease last?

That's right, there is no known cure. If you think that catalog is bad then don't you dare go to a rally.

You are experiencing what RV really stands for - "Repetitive Valuation" (or "Repeating Value"). This means you must spend whatever amount you paid for your RV, once again in gotta-haves, wanna-haves, keeping-up-withs, think-you-need-to-haves, etc.

I am still going through this especially after you find what I paid for my Monty and I haven't quite gotten to what I paid for it yet. The bad news that I have heard from other friends is after you have done this, you might keep RVing yourself again and again. This can include buying another RV and keeping up the vicious cycle. You can read about it from MOCers complaining about how much they spend on their rig and then crying and smiling over it as they continue with "the 'RV' lifestyle" all the way to the Bank or ATM machine.

There is no cure and is completely legal, so just enjoy it.

So you can't stop it.......you can only hope to contain it.

Living in Louisiana.....now that I think about it.....trying to make a joke out of containing something (see oil spill in the Gulf) rather than stopping it is not very funny.

And don't forget about that guy who sneaks into your life and makes you buy stuff. His name is "JUSTIN CASE".

I just went to camping world and actually stayed under a hundred bucks for stuff! Problem is that I got to the trailer and found stuff I needed to install from my last trip, which gave me ideas for my next mod, which brought out the catalog...I need a 12 step program!

It is truly a illness.....but then again why look for a cure. Enjoy the fact that someone out in the world has designed something that we have lived our entire lives without until the moment we saw that dreaded item on the shelf that we are not sure what it does, how it works or if it works that we must have today. And must add we are delighted to pay top dollar for. Go ahead and splurge.

We lucked out!

Last time we stopped at Camping World, we didn't see a single item that was on the "must have" list.

Whew, there's one in a row.

The cure is to throw away the catalogue before you open a page.

It's like all the products I make. They all come with a lifetime warranty,
if you die soon enough.

"The cure is to throw away the catalog" the kind gentleman said. Oh, so "just say no."

Well, I was able to put that to a test this afternoon. Got a flyer in the mail today from Camping World and I did I throw that sucker away. That is, after I looked through every single page and every single item. Thing is, it seems like I had already bought half of the stuff they were advertising..and from them, no less.

Edmojenks,
Yep! The best you can hope for is to contain. And that is all relative! I'm afraid the best we can hope for is simply sit back and enjoy!

Travel safely,
Dennis

There is no cure, it's terminal. I can never trade my trailer for another one. I've done too many things to it to start all over again.

There will come a time in maybe 3 or 4 years and 3 or 4K wwhen you will walk into CW look around and say..." We have all this stuff" "we don't need a thing" It is a real downer not to need anything.

The day will come when you clean out the 5vr and have that "Why Do I Carry This Box" with all that stuff you purchased at Camping World.
