Propane Connection For BBQ

Hi All,
We are new to this group and happy to say that we will be picking up our new Montana 2955RL on Thursday.
Here is our first question (I'm sure we'll have others):
Our trailer does not have a factory installed connection for a BBQ. We are wondering if we should have the dealer install one, although they didn't sound very certain about the how and where it would go. Or, is there another way to go...maybe a kit or a t connector? Does it have any effect on the propane supply to the trailer? Or, is it better to just buy small propane bottles and forget about connecting to the trailer?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
Janet & Ron

Using the house propane sounds like a good idea to me. I just have not gotten around to doing anything about it. I bought a 5 pound refillable tank and use that for our grill.
I would think the dealer should be able to help you out with a quick disconnect.

We had a 2955rl before our current 3075 and we really enjoyed our travels with it. Enjoy and welcome!

When we bought our trailer a year and a half ago, I bought the kit to tap into the gas line for a BBQ. I haven't done it yet and I'm not sure I'm going to. We use the small bottles of propane with the grill and so far it works just fine.

We used small bottles for awhile and then on longer trips I would haul around a 5gal bottle. But I finally got around to getting a 1gal bottle and I really like it for the Barbecue.

First of welcome to the table you will love your monty as 99% here do. I had a quick disconect on SOB and did not like it at all, then I went to CW and they have a adapter that goes on the tank with a 12 foot hose for the BBQ connection thats OK but now I have the 5 gal and a 1 gal tank, I like them better one for the propane light and the other for the BBQ.

I made the connections to the door-side tank using parts from CW. I just coil up the hose and leave it behind the propane door, then drop it down behind the landing gear and hook it up to the Weber. I carried a 5 and/or 10lb tank for many years with our popup. I don't like the little bottles because they can't be recycled and wind up as landfill.

I do something like Dave. I went to the propane company and had them make up a 20' hose for me with a bottle connection on one end and the other end simply screws onto the tank on the right side of the rig when I want to use it. Easy to use and no extra tank to carry around.
A long run like I have they install a larger output sized connection to the tank. I think the 12' hose they have at Camping World would work just fine. The rubber hose from the propane dealer is very flexible.

We have a Weber Baby-Q and the small refillable tank. Then we can grill where we want and not be tied to right under the awning. The small refillable tanks are available at a lot of places. I think ours is a 5 lb.

We do and feel the same as rames14. The Baby Weber travels next to the Fifth wheel hitch and we cook on picnic tables, not under the awning.

Thanks everyone for the helpful answers. We have decided to go with a small refillable bottle for now and a baby Weber.
Picking up the new 2955RL today! Woohoo!

Janet and Ron -

Let us know how you like the Weber. It is my first Weber and it is the most even cooking grill I've ever had.

Never met a Weber I didn't love. The one at the stick house is 20+ years old and still grillin great! We have the big Genisis, the baby, the charcoal kettle & small Smokey Joe.

We've been using the kit connecting one of our propane bottles to the bbq for years. We also have the connector on the same line for an external propane bottle for those times we're in cold weather and use a 100lb external bottle.

Any comments on how long an extension from the bottle is acceptable? I suppose pressure drop is a problem?

I use a 1 gal for my Weber Q. BTW, DW suggested that we get the flat grill when we bought the unit. I was (typically) suspect but I really love cooking breakfast on it. We also got the rolling cart. Makes for a nice BBQ stand.

My experience has been no matter what the length of the hose, as long as there is propane in the supply bottle, the hose will fill up with propane gas and pressurize enough to open and supply gas to the device. The disadvantage of a long hose is ALL the gas inside is considered spent and stays in the hose as long as you do not disconnect the side connected to the supply side. (Then you'll hear all that gas coming out if you have not purged the hose of this spent gas.)

This is also how our RVs work. There are very long runs of hose and pipe that store propane gas as long as the bottles are full. This is one reason that we are NOT supposed to drive with our propane valves on. Because ALL propane lines could be under some pressure especially if a device is turned on (furnace, fridge, water heater, etc.) and this could be a problem in an accident.

Unfortunately, I do run the fridge on propane enroute. I haven't had the need for the water heater (mine heats up real quick at the CG) and I don't travel in cold weather to run the furnace. But only one propane bottle valve is open. I do not run the fridge if I know I am going to refuel. I also try to avoid tunnels.

I think the hose I'm currently using is 7 feet. I used to have a 12 footer and it worked fine, too.
