U-Bolt Torque on the axles
Hello everyone!!! I know, I have not been on MOC in a while, but have been busy(excuses, excuses....) Well, the season is back again, and we just went and got the Montana out of storage and brought it home to ready it for an Easter weekend trip. Time to check and clean everything. My question: Last year someone had posted the Torque specs. on the axle u-bolts. For my life I cannot remember what it was. I did torque the u-bolts last year before heading to Tenn. (and all but one was loose) So if anyone can help me on this I sure would appreciate a reply. Thank You! John D. Daniels

For most of us the agreed upon torque after investigating the types of bolts it was determination to be 60-70 ft lbs. I used 65 just to be in the middle. Since doing this the nuts haven't changed much, but the first time around, like you, they just about all needed retorquing.
Here's one of the u-bolt torque topics:
http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...s=ubolt,torque
Here's the other:
http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...s=ubolt,torque
Unfortunately, you'll have to read a bunch of the posts to find where 65 ft lbs was agreed upon, but I hope I remembered this correctly.
If this topic gets moved hopefully this goes with it.

I have made some stickers that have the lug nut torque and u-bolt torque specs on them and then put them on the inside door of the landing gear/slide out selector valve compartment. This way, I always have ready access to the specs Works for me and my CRS (Can't Remember Stuff)!!!!!!!

Between 110-120 ft/lbs is what's in my owner's book. I use 115 ft/lbs (right in the middle) for my aluminum wheels. Fortunately, this is what I have been using since I bought my rig 4 years ago and with the MOC consensus I feel pretty good about that number.
But I just now picked up jackel1959's CRS disease, I better go recheck. Has that happened to you? You use a particular number for years, then there's a question and it messes (me) up. Bah!

dmaxmountaineer,
110-120 FT/LBS according to the Montana Owner's manual. I think the Mountaineer has the same wheels as the Montana but you might check your Owner's manual for the torques specs. They should be in the chapter titled "Tires, Axles & Weights". You may also want to take a look at this video from Keystone: Lug Nut Torque.
Art,
Glad to see I am not the only one with CRS
