Still working so we are holding off on doing the BIG trip until we retire. Thus, we make a lot of short trips but have made some 300+ mile 6+ hour days...and that is all we would want to do on a regular basis. We are both 53, but I am the only one that drives.

As one of the young whipper-snappers!!! ( I will be 29 for the 21st time in December), I know that I still do things that I really shouldn't in terms of driving time. Well at least one time per year anyway. Typical longest driving days with the rig is 10 hours (Myrtle Beach), but our Thanksgiving trip is the exception to the rule. I have been driving it non-stop (15-16 hours) for the last couple of years. The reason is for the benefit of the family. I will take a nap on Friday evening and pull out about 10 or 11 that night and if all goes well arrive in Destin at around 5 or 6 Saturday afternoon. This year we are considering leaving before the nap and stopping overnight for a few hours but that is still in the decision making process. The long drive allows us a full seven day vacation versus five or six. Yes it is hard on the body, but the benefits (to me) outweigh the discomfort. It is like the Mastercard commercials to me, as I work long hours, I feel the time with my family is priceless.

I join my friend Orv among the mature members of this virtual community. I will celebrate my 78th birthday this month. Here is a summary log of our latest RV trip:

Note: that 500 mile leg was in order to reach an RV Park where I could watch the second episode of "Our National Parks" series by Ken Burns. We did make it, even after a flat tire on our pickup which I changed beside the busy highway--unwilling to wait for AAA.

I'm 59....for a few more years anyway.
When towing we try to limit our travel to about 200 miles. We also try to stay at least 3 days each time we move. There have been times when we have said that it is time to "get out of Dodge", (pun intended) and will put the miles down...our last biggest jaunt was 390 miles one day, and 370 the next. We had to get out of the hot weather.

Up until this year when we gave up our unit, we generally got on the road at 8:30 or 9 AM and about 2:30 or 3 Jeanne would start looking or calling parks in the area we were in. Mileage wasn't important. Jeanne is 76, I'm 78.

For trips away from southern Ontario, we try to keep the hours down to six or eight, but if we're hauling to a distant destination, we'll grind out ten to twelve hours. I'm 52 for 3 more days and self-employed, so my schedule si sonmewhat flexible. Kathy's younger. I've been doing all the driving, but Kathy will be starting soon.
