My sister had one made it was one of those memory foam type and it looked like a regular mattress all the fancy quilting and stuff. It weighed a ton and two strong men and a boy to carry it into the 5er.

What we did in both the Montana and the house is to buy a cheap mattress (Keystone helped out on the Montana when we bought it as that's all they supply is cheap mattresses) and then we bought a 4 in memory foam topper from Overstock.com ($179 for King) and put that on top. Best sleep I have ever had.

Check out Denver Mattress. They have stores all over including Utah!
They have RV queen and will also deliver. The Salvation Army will probably take your old mattress.

Our local Sleepys carries two RV size mattresses made by King Coil. We bought one in November. Cost was around $900. but we love it.

We have always used a 4" mattress toppers. And it worked well. However we are getting the Sleep number mattress this time on the new 5th wheel. Never ever found a good mattress in a RV. GBY...

We purchased a foam mattress from Costco. All vacuum packed in a box. Heavy son of a gun but it sleeps great. We like it so much in the house we bought one for the Monty. We move from the house to the Monty and it just like sleeping on the same bed. No difference at all.

DW and I have been together over 40 years and, believe me, we have had many different mattresses. NONE have slept better than the stock RV mattress with a Costco 4 inch memory foam topper on top. You might try this first, who knows, save some money for fuel. You could always take the topper back if not satisified, I would imagine.....

Illapah, just remember to have a good cotton mattress pad over the foam topper. While they are the greatest thing since sliced bread (for sleeping, anyway) these memory foam toppers will generate heat just by the action/reaction of the great cushioning effect you are getting.

Question about the memory foam toppers: Do any of you who bought one have a king-size bed in your Monty, and if so, did you trim the topper to fit it? Because the Montana king isn't a standard king, I'm guessing you did have to do some engineering to make it fit correctly.

Carolyn, use an electric kitchen knife to round off the corners of the foam at the foot of the bed. That works great. We also have a king size bed in our Montana 3400. That was all the trimming we needed to do.
*On Edit~ As a side note: the extra weight of the foam topper - they are heavy - will make raising your bed compartment a real challenge. The oem struts will not hold it up - or even close. Not sure any struts would hold the screws, actually. You will need to improvise a simple brace system to be able to utilize that space.
We have a comforter that also adds a little weight. Struts never had a chance...
We also have removed the wood panel under the bed for extra space and have gorilla taped over the rust/oil metal parts under there.

I am not going to mess with trimming the topper until we get home. We willl be in Glacier NP till the end of August. We did get the 3 inch king topper at Costco and it is a bit wide and long. I will trim it. The electric knife sounds like the way to go for those of us without the professional gear.
Bed slept good last nite and did notice it was warmer that without.

I was amazed at how nice and easy the electric knife trimmed 3 or 4 inches off the side and a little around the corners.
Also, the foam topper is transferable to any other RV bed you may get in the future.

The $" Queen Size Memory Foam topper I got from Overstock.com was short enough to fit the RV bed as most toppers are not as long as the bed in my experience. Great to sleep on, but as noted, they're heavy!
