I want to thank everyone for a great Rally, especially the Wagon Masters and Assistances. Then of course all the coordinators.

Normally I have a smartalick comment ready but last night when I was given the Black Eagle and standing ovation I could not talk because my throat had choaked up and tears were running down my cheeks. Thank you so much to all that were at the 2013 Fall Rally. What a family.
Safe travels

Taken on the coffee table.

John,
That was just to show the appreciation of us all. Thanks for all you have done and continue to do no matter if it is at a rally or just a visit.

I would be curious to know the significance of the "award". I agree that whatever the significance is, it could not go to a more deserving ambassador of both the Armed Services and the MOC. I only hope that those members of the MOC who have not crossed paths with John, get the benefit as well as the pleasure of meeting him in the future. I have totally enjoyed the times that our paths have crossed and look forward to the next time. For all of the other ambassador's of our Armed Services, a heart-felt thanks is extended to you and your families as well!! You are all all deeply appreciated by this family!!

Bingo, let me explain. As raffle coordinator, I checked in most gifts and donations. An anonymous person donated the metal eagle plaque. Not only I thought it was cool looking, but I saw John looking at it also, in fact several times during the rally week. Being a donation, it wasn't something we could just pull out and give to someone. I came up with a plan, but didn't tell anyone.

Also during rally week, 3 of John's lady friends (my wife Kristi Silver, Jim Fischer's wife Vicki, and Greg Kerlins wife Kate) got together and helped John re-decorate his trailer and make it more into a man cave, removing some of his old decorations his late wife Anne had on the walls. After things were removed, most walls were bare and I thought the eagle would be a fitting start to a new chapter.

Most MOC members who participate in rallys know John as Mr fix-it, Mr know the information and Mr Montana. As John always says "understand". And he is there for you. Well, it was his turn this time.

On the last night of the rally, I came to a pause while i was calling out winning rally tickets. I asked the group if I could pull this plaque out of the raffle and give it to John as a special memento for his contribution, his inspiration, humor, and sharing attitude. I received my reply immediately. Without a moments hesitation, most people were on their feet, clapping, and giving John a standing ovation. Evidently everybody agreed.

End of story

Although I'm sure the maker didn't intend it, the eagle has special meaning to John. To see why, look at the Marine Corp emblem.

Semper Fi John! Well deserved!
