Progressive portable unit. I can check the pedestal BEFORE I back or pull in. No decisions about where or how to mount it. No installation work or costs. When I sell the trailer, it just comes with me to the new one. If I have a warranty issue, it's an easy swap, not a complete uninstall and then reinstall of a new one.

Hard wired 50 C just installed Saturday by myself just follow the instructions which are well written with a color picture for reference . I got mine installed and could not get any voltage thur on one leg so called the company and left a message ( remember now this was Saturday ) I got a call back with in an hour and the feller on the other end walked me thru the trouble shooting sequence -bingo' power on both legs .
love the remote read out , mounted mine just above my thermostat
Had to empty the basement out to pull panels to fish the data wire up the wall and there left behind by the "craftsman " was a Wal-Mart plastic bag , go figure

Well, I went with a hard wired surge guard, I guess I should have asked your question prior to purchase. So far, 2 years, it has worked well with no problems. Very comfortable with the protection after having a significant electrical surge in prior SOB which ruined converter/charger. I will replace with Progressive if a failure occurred due to warranty and positive reviews on this forum.

This is exactly what I did. Not bad mouthing any company, several I camp with had Surge's and I just went with them. Next time, it will be a Progressive.

It's hard to beat a "Lifetime Warranty".

Thanks for all the responses! So the ones that have it hardwired did you take it to a dealer and what was the cost for that?
Thanks again!

It's not hard to do yourself. Easy instructions to follow.

Guess we will chime in, and many ditto on hard wired Progressive Indust. Did it myself following directions and effort, and I am definitely an amateur electrician lol. If you have any qualms on doing it take it to an installer..
It was the second thing I did when we got our Monty. First, upgraded to G614's the the P.I.

The hard wired installation is probably the best way to go however we have had the PT 50C portable for 10 years and two Montana's hanging off power post all over the country and it never disappeared. When we traded Montana's the PT 50C went with us.

Would installing this device cause any issues for a rig that has the power converter for the electric fridge? I would think not as it would only be functioning during shore power hook up but I read on the progressive sight that you would not connect a converter directly to it. Not sure why you would do that in the first place, did I read that wrong?

Your converter is on the load side of the surge protector, so it is connected. I think you may be confused with what a converter is compared to an inverter, which is used to make 120 volts AC from a 12 volt DC source. Your converter will be connected to the incoming 120 volt service, and it converts 120 volts AC into 12 volts DC.

Where in the unit do you place the hard wired surge protector. I have a 3711 FL.

I installed a Progressive EMS HW50C Just next to the battery charger of the Converter. There was enough extra wire I did not have to buy any. I installed the remote just under the breaker panel in my 2016 HM 375 FL. Installation took about an hour to install. I removed the baggage compartment wall for access. It is great seeing the voltage and amp draw on each leg.

Before anyone does anything get a handle on the difference between an Surge protector and a EMS system.
( Electrical Management System)
