Surge devices hardwire vs plug ins
Purchased first trailer 3610rl. Put in campground days before closing. Question can power surge device be hard wired at rear of trailer under enclosed belly or is there a better place to install. Will not be back to unit before spring. Thanks for any help. New.owner

Welcome to the MOC! Glad you could join us.
IMHO, a hardwired electrical management system like I have (Progressive Industries HW50C) should only be mounted in a weatherproof location since it can have up to 50 amps of 220 volt electricity running through it.
I installed mine behind the fuse/breaker panel. If you're not familiar with the installation of this type of electrical device, I recommend having a qualified electrician perform the work.

I agree with Jay. They need to be protected from the elements

I use a portable one because I don't want to go to all the trouble of backing in and then find I need to move. Does that happen often, no, but I've found three bad pedestals over the years that I didn't back into. If I was going to install an in house unit I agree with the folks above, I'd put it as close to the breaker box as possible.

Thanks for the quick response. Will hardwire behind the panel in the spring. I didn't have time to remove underbelly to investigate if it was protected.

I my HW50C installed behind the steps going up to the bedroom. Makes it easy to access via 4 screws if needed.

I too, installed mine behind the electrical panel , and mounted it to the floor. Easiest access for me was in the cargo area, Progressive industries. Then I routed the data cable, and mounted the display box in the cabinet will my control center. came out pretty sweet. If you have a basic knowledge of electrical, it is straight forward. Can get everything you need from home depot ( extra cable, connectors, etc)

My dealer installed our Progressive Industries HW unit. They installed it right behind the power/ fuse station.
