Large slide problem
We are on our third Montana and seem to have the same problem of the living room slide. The one inch square tube steel connecting the sprockets is fastened with 1/4" bolts and they shear off quite offen. I've called Lippert and they say it might be an allignment problem but not aware of anyone else with this problem. It's just odd that we had and have this same problem with all three trailers. The slide works perfectly and seats good in or out. I think the slide mechanism is to lite. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I think I would have the alignment checked. This is by no means a common problem.

Just questions here to promote thought.
Have you installed your own slide toppers and perhaps loaded them too much?
Have you tried leveling first then extending the slides?
How much load do you put on your rear jacks during setup?
Do you permanently place heavy items at one end or the other of the slide?
Do you lube not only the gear rack and arms, but the balance shaft bushings as well?
Do you stand on the slide as it extends/retracts?
Have you tried using grade 8 shear bolts as well as grade 5 to see any difference in results?
Are the shear bolts too long and hitting the frame?
Supporting Dick's reply ... I have had no issue with shear bolts in 15+ years with 3 different Montana's.

Thanks for all the input. I went to Ace Hardware and got a two inch long, grade 8 bolt and will see how that holds up. The allignment looks good and no extra weight in slide. I was under the impression that you were not supposed to lube any of the slide mechanism. What if anything should I use?

I have actually started using regular slide lubrication spray which I get at CW.
