Tailgater info

I have been investigating the tailgater for Dish network (like their month to month deal). Have read here several folks have had problems connecting the tailgater to the 5er's coax for satellite. I tried on our 2011 3100RL, utilizing a friends tailgater and receiver, with no luck. It would not find the signal, connected to internal coax. I have been told by Dish dealer and by Camping World that it should work, and that I probably have a bad coax connector.
Has anyone successfully used the Monty's coax system to make system work?
When we had Direct TV, utilized the Monty's satellite coax system with out a problem, just got tired of trying to aim and their high and expanding pricing.

I have a tailgater. Mine has always been plug and play. Plug it in and in about ten minutes watch TV.

Have had mine for a year now and all is good AFTER I switched out the cheap 50ft coax they give ya and bought a quality Quad wrap shorter 25ft coax ALSO there is a little "learning curve" when you first buy one when it says "can not find all satellites" keep hitting RESCAN till it finds all 3 of them instead of just hitting the continue anyway when it only finds 2 and also sometimes when you select a channel it takes a few seconds to "kick In" so be patient ,the only thing I do not like about the Tailgater is when a good Rainstorm hits FORGET ABOUT IT! it goes down and that sucks because I live in the NW and well you know what they say about Seattle

They must have improved the cable. Mine came with RG6 cable. I just hooked mine up about 7 minutes ago and I'm watching TV now.

Yep some people have had no problem with the 50ft coax, Dish says the farther down South you live(closer to the Equator) the better the signal for it to travel the whole 50feet of cable AND all through the coach But when you live farther North it helps to have a shorter cable for getting the signal

I have an older model, but mine worked fine thru the trailer wiring. But I only had a single coax input. Added a second one specifically for sat.

I have just about given up on mine. While in Oregon, I was having several issues. Finally, I used 25' of 3gig swept coax per Dish's specs and ran it directly through a window to the receiver bypassing all of the RV cable.

At times, I could get all of my channels, other times, I could only receive SD channels. Problems were centered around the HD channels on 119, sometimes on 129. Minor rain and cloud cover were perhaps the issue.

Bigskyjimmy might be on to something as I don't recall any issues when in Arizona. It was frustrating using it in Oregon. Looks like I'm going back to the tripod and the Dish 1000.

Yep brenkco we just came back from Zion ,Bryce etc.... and had ZERO reception problems, the farther North we got we got reception problems more and now we are on the WASHINGTON coast where we have got a few storms and it sometimes "rain fades" but always comes back but all and all we are happy with the Tailgater

I was always able to get all three satellites. However, when tuning to a HD channel, I got a message, most of the time, 'signal loss, switching to SD equivalent'. I have become a HD snob especially when it comes to sports.

When we had a Winegard carryout it didn't work well with the OEM connections either. Changed to good connectors and never had another problem.

I have never got that message. I have always got both HD and SD. Ain't got a clue as to why.
