Dang, it is getting harder to go camping!
It has nothing to do with fuel, or reservations or traffic. Those who have been on the MOC awhile may remember a post with a slideshow that I did a couple of years back that detailed the construction of our river dock that I built myself in front of the house. The last couple of weeks, I have been consumed on adding to the dock to take advantage of the last piling which was sitting all alone by itself with nothing connected to it. Last weekend, I finished the addition and now am posting pictures so everyone can understand my dilemma. To boat or not to boat, to jetski or not to jetski, to kayak or not to kayak, to camp or not to camp. The problem with working is that there is not enough "free time" to do all of the things that I enjoy doing. Here is the contributing factor towards the camping dilemma, in the course of about five minutes, I can be on the river or simply on the dock relaxing. Regardless, I am very happy with the results of the latest project, here are the pics:
Rest assured camping is still on the front burner, Cathy comes back from a week at Liberty University today and I have already told her I need to take a couple days off and make a four day weekend for a local camping trip. Got the bug! Excuse the mess in front of the dock box, but I got to have something to do this weekend!

You just got it all wrong, ...first of all you are already camping.....you are already by the water and doing water stuff like fishing, boating and jet skiing so all you got to do is just build a fire pit in the back yard. Now when you take out the Montana you are now using it as a mobile condo/cabin/motel room/townhome/beach front property/chalet/etc...but not camping.... Oh and you most likely have all the mosquitoes you can handle there at the house so most definitely you're camping there lol lol.....but for real that is a heck of a nice set up......

Don't even have to go to the backyard, there is a Chiminea on the dock!! LOL! Now if I could only retire so I could enjoy more time there!! Of course, if I was retired, at the pace I am going, I would be too old to build stuff!!

Great looking set up. You can be proud of that project and enjoy it at the same time. I do strongly recommend retirement. I'm not working any less, but now mostly it's on what I want to work on and when I want to do it.

What a wonderful conundrum!!
It's a shame to have all those beautiful toys and only enjoy them part time.
Great job on the dock! Very classy!!

Still have three women-folk living at the house, have to work full-time just to keep up with their spending habits!! On the bright side, at least all three work, but two are in college which negates the working! Retirement is not an option at present, but a fella can always dream!!

Real nice setup Bingo! I do have one question though, are you on a tidal river, or does the river level fluctuate due to a hydro electric station? Or possibly something else??? The last time I saw a dock setup like yours, I was in Newport RI. Looks very well constructed.

Bobsals,
Nope, not a tidal river, but we are on a river that is subject to varying depths due to flood events (particularly in the Spring). We are on the fortunate side since we have a lock and dam about a mile downstream from the house. The most variation I have seen in the river is about five foot during Spring flooding. Here is what the dock looked like then (during initial construction):
Note the height still remaining on the pilings and the fact that the ramp is horizontal! Most of the people around us have fixed docks and they were all submerged during this event. When the water receded, the river echoed with the sound of pressure washers as they had to spray mud and debris off, while I got to sit on the dock with a nice cold iced tea and watch all of them while listening to the hum of pressure washers all day. Here was a view upstream of their docks (or lack of). The house boat is actually tied off at the end of a dock and you can see all of the dock piers and posts peeking up from the river.

That same thing would happen on the lake we had our S&B on. My first improvement was a floating dock and boat lift similar to yours. Many floating docks have followed and now with the zebra mussel infestation the boat lifts are becoming popular also. I look at your pictures and miss it, but wouldn't trade full timing for that life again. I'm too old for the work that goes into maintaining it all.

Looks great Bingo. Is the decking made of Trex (engineered plastic wood)? I use that for patio decks on dry land.

It is not Trex, it is the cheaper Lowes store brand, but it is the engineered plastic wood material.

Don,
I want to go camping, DW just wants to lay in the sun on the dock! Consider it venting, or a cry for help possibly! Actually, the post was neither, it was just a follow-up of the construction slideshow that was posted a couple years ago, in the event that anyone was interested in how the final project ended up, still have a couple of minor additions to do (seems like an eternal project). But I do want to go camping and am trying to talk her into a four-day local trip, guess I will have to bribe her with a beach chair!!
