Filling in the state map...what counts?

We are going to put one of those sticky back state maps on our rig but we are wondering what the proper etiquette is....

One person told me if they dragged their rig through a state it counts, another said you had to spend the night. So what say my fellow MOC members? What do you consider when you are about to put a state sticker on?

We wouldn't want to cheat you know!

One of the members here filled in all the states on his map and others questioned how he got his truck and 5th wheel to Hawaii!! LOL

When I had one on the rig (previous), I only colored in states where I had camped. I don't think there is any "rule" other than whatever you decide you want it to represent, a states "visited" map, or a state "stayed in map".

That is too funny! Someone told me if there family went on a vacation, even without the 5th wheel they marked the map. To me if it is on your RV, it should be where you have been with it. Hawaii is a funny one though! I will have to think about that Bingo.... States visited or states stayed in.... Mmmmmhhhh?

My rule is that I have to have camped at least one night in that state with my current 5th wheel. If I get a new 5th wheel, I have to start over again.

I agree with tanner1070, stayed in that state with the RV that has the map and sticker on it.

We decided we would have to spend at least one night in the state, camped in the 5th wheel. We have camped in Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana, but we only drove through Kentucky so there's a white space. We decided to go to Kentucky this year for our vacation, just so we could put the sticker on the map! :-)

Make up your own rules Carol, base it on how fast you drive through the state or province or something like that, it is up to the individual how they want to include their travels/camping experiences in their map.

Just go and have fun, you know where you have been, take away fond memories of each new place you visit, that is far more important than any other thing.

Took mine off because DW and I couldn't decide if we wanted to represent 40 yrs camping, visited states, or where we camped with this trailer. No map, no worries!

Map reflects states slept in for one night with this current rig.

One exception was made, we drove the I 68, National Highway in Maryland, it got an honorary fill in. Long story.

Actually, it's whatever rule you want to use. For us, we only put a state map in when we have spent a night in that state. Our map shows that we have never slept in North Dakota or any of the New England states except Connecticut; and that's over a period of 45 years of camping. We did camp in Japan, near Misawa AB. I was stationed there for 5 years.

We have been fulltiming since July 1, 1999- We have worn out 2 trucks and 3 fivers- We finally got a new map and mounted it on a clear sheet of plastic because every time we started a map we traded fivers- We count every state we spend a night in- When we passed through Idaho, it was a short day of travel- We still have a few states to sleep in- JMHO- Don

I dunno...it seems to me if you drive through it...You've been there. I'd "sticker" it!

State stickering is in the eye of the beholder. Choose your own rule. Our rule is at least one night in the state with this rig.

Mrs. Country Guy, I can agree with you about I68. Drove it with our living quarter horse trailer hauling three horses on a 90+ degree day. It ain't a haul for sissy's. Had to stop twice to let things cool down on those hills.

You are all too funny! We will definitely come up with our own rules, and then we will fill out an Excel Spreadsheet to keep track of them! What can I say with 2 engineers in the family everything has to have its own spreadsheet! We will base it on weather conditions, miles driven, scenery, how many times we stopped for gas, etc! I just love this forum! It is so much fun!

Carol, Am I in trouble? I keep track of everything on a spread sheet and I'm not an engineer.

If we go through a state we sticker it!
Traveling through will probably mean that you’ve spent money in that state.
With that, it deserves to have its own sticker IMHO.

OK, OK,I was the guy who had Hawaii on my map! I was just putting in everywhere we had actually been together, not just camped and not just with this rig. I was so ashamed I took Hawaii off! Maybe I'll put it back on...
