Ext Door latch
We had the same issue with our door and installed a door latch... Took me 10 min.
After 20 ys 5th wheeling with Curt, Pull Right, and blue ox....all were good hitches, but I use my truck bed often when not towing and lifting hitch in and out is a two man job. Last Spring I bought a new Anderson Hitch. The hitch weighs 48 lbs vs 250 plus lbs. The Anderson eliminated all hitch " chucking"... and at $700 it's several hundred dollars cheaper

Hitch and latch
You should have the friction hinges thus not need latch. Adding one probably doesn’t hurt though. Our 3130 doesn’t need a latch. I use Anderson ultimate gooseneck hitch. It is a really nice set up.

I replaced the plastic do9r holder twice and the third is the stainless steel from camping world. Worth The extra cost ! I like my B&W puck system with my F350 duelly. Easy in and out if you need a full open bed.

Also, we are ordering a Ford F350 DRW truck and can get the hitch from Ford when ordering $1495 or buy independently. Any opinions? We have never towed a fifth wheel so looking for guidance. Our research is tending toward B & W.
Thanks!

The Andersen Ultimate is great. Used it with my F350 srw short bed with no problems. And it’s doing fine in the bed of my long bed F450. And it’s a breeze to install or remove. One more thing, it will save you $500-$600.

We love our 2017 Ford XLT 350 dually. We also went with the Ford hitch and they installed a it. Our 40’ Montana is easily towed and we don’t even know it is back there on the highway. We did a lot of research on dual wheels vs single and decided safety was more important. You don’t just park it anywhere because it is so big, but it is well worth it.

I have the puck system with B&W Companion slider in a short box. Would love to go to the Ultimate so I don't need a crane to remove it. Just wondering how far you could turn with it in the s/b.

Get the puck system and the Ultimate trailer tow camera system. Pucks mean factory holes. UTTCS means truck is smaller in parking lots.

Great job looks great, I have the friction door on my new trailer and the wind will blow it around and I was thinking of add the latch like you did and my 2015 Montana had but I think I will put a magnet on it like the storage bay has for one reason,,,,so I don't have to go down the new type stem to reach the latch where with a magnet I can reach out and pull the door shut.
Any thoughts?

If your new Ford comes with the puck system, (camper pkg. would include it) go with the B&W. Its only around $1100.00, but shop around. I saved $175.00 on mine from buying at American canopies instead of the Montana dealership and they are next door to each other. I have a 2018 Chevy High Country DRW. Ford should be similar. Only takes about 5 minutes to install, but it is nice to have a second set of hands to get the base in the truck. You'll be VERY happy with the B&W. This is my second one!

I got my Ford hitch thrown in during negotiations, love it, its a Reese with Ford stickers on it. you'll love the dually
our friction hinged doors stay open during pretty strong winds, if they start getting weak, I would go with the old style latch mikendebbie show.

Sorry for the slow reply. Thought I’d be notified of new posts but I missed it if I was. Anyway to back into my driveway, I was just short of 90 degrees. It was tighter than any campground space so far.

I ordered and now have a 2018 F350 DRW 6.7 and tow a Montana 3790RD -- it feels very stable and the wife is very comfortable.
I also ordered it with the spray in liner from Ford, off the truck and ready to go!
Great truck

In the location you selected for the door holder was there any concern about the screws hitting any wiring?

Not at all. I did the sketch below for a different thread - but if you look you can see my door holder, and there are no wires in the wall at that location.
