The East

I live out west so I am familiar with the boondocking opportunities there but what is the experience in the east?

If your in a truck camper, pop up or small trailer there are many opportunities. If your towing a 40' long, 13.5' tall rig with 3 or
4 slides your very limited.

There is ample dry camping in many of our national forest, national seashores, state and county parks. These are organized campgrounds without hook ups. Not free but at much reduced rates.

Agree with Creeker. You have to do much more research to find a place for these beasts and even overnights at places like Walmart are becoming harder to find in the east.

You may wish to purchase a Rand McNally Walmart atlas. They list all Walmart locations and phone numbers in the back. I've also heard it's not Walmart that restricts boondocking but town ordinances. If this is true then all parking lots in that town would be restricted.

Let's put it this way - I didn't waste my bucks on another solar array or better genset on the current 5er as there are not enough off CG sites in the Northeast. Not enough wide open spaces or and COE facilities. Also, not all Walmarts cater to camping either due to local ordinances. In my county, staying in a church parking lot will get you a visit from a sheriff deputy or statie.

We don’t know what you mean by boondocking, staying overnight or longer. Longer time in western Va I can help.

There are gov. and state lands all over the east, North and south, but in the east they are much smaller and usually used by Class B, tents, and truck campers. For an RV or trailers of any size, usually are much to big for their purpose!

In the east, there are limitations to the places we can fit with the size of the Montanas.
I recently received this email from Harvest hosts. They claim to have a bunch of places that will let you stay overnight at their members facilities for a night. These are various places and I have not had an opportunity to check into this but if they are what they claim, it seems like a good deal.
Has anybody heard of this company?

$$$$$

Stay away from NY! Although most state campgrounds are ample but range greatly in extremes, none have full h/u. Also bring LOTS OF MONEY for the toll roads (at least a couple hundred) and prepare to beat the heck out of your rig due to the lovely tank traps in the roads!

Agree with Tamu320. The roads are rough especially in the spring when the frost goes out of the ground and they really heeve. Jersey knows how to collect tolls also.
