Step Rugs
I just bought three “Step Rugs” at Walmart and put them on my steps to help keep dirt and dust out of the Monty. These are the ones with a little spring on the underside that attaches to a couple of grommets to keep them on. Do you all keep these on the steps while you’re driving, or should I plan on taking them off before leaving? I’m concerned that they not fly off while driving, or are they more durable than they appear? Any experience on these?
Thanks,
Scott

Leave them on when travelling. We've used these for more than 10 years and have never lost one going down the road.

We leave ours on all the time. But instead of the little springs, I have attached ours with zip ties and they been on there for over 4 years now.

Mine have been on for 4 years, no problems so far. The way my stairs fold up and the tightness of the springs, I expect it would be very hard for them to fall off.

We wear them out before they fall off. 17 yrs of RVing, just purchasing our 3rd set. 2nd set was only because I thought our new Monty should have new rugs!!!
Happy trails...............

Yeah, like they all said. Replace them when they wear out or get too dirty to clean or you just want to. Happy RVing............

Stiles hit the nail on the head as I CAN SHOW THE X-RAYS OF MY LEFT LEG WITH THE PLATES IN IT. Broke it in three places.

Well, There's always someone who does it differently. I bought a thicker set from CW and cannot close the steps if I leave them on, SO, I take them off each time. They have zip ties that I undo. Remember though, we usually stay at least a week at each site, if any less I don't put them on. I would rather leave them on all the time but can't close the steps......

I would throw the springs away and use 14" tywraps. Pull them tight and leave them that way for about a week, then tight each one and cut off the excess. We've done this for years and depending on the type of material the rugs are made out of and if the grommets are well seated, they'll last indefinitely. We full time so ours get a lot of use from all the entering and exiting we do.

Orv, I use the tywraps also BUT, I have to undo them each time, not an easy task for sure. I use a small screwdriver to help undo them. When these wear out, if ever, I will replace them with thinner ones to close the step with them on.

Once you have a set and they wear out go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet that matches your 5r and make your own. I bought a bag of grommets and a die set from Harbor Freight for $4.00 and a 18" x 12' piece of carpet for $8.00 from Lowes and have enough to make about 8 steps worth. Use your original for a template and I use tie straps to hold them on. Lot better than spending the $16.00 per step.

We made a set out of indoor/outdoor carpet. We used a gromet kit to make the metal holes. We use a bungee cord to make sure the steps stay up while traveling. As others have mentioned toss the springs and use zip ties to keep them in place.

You find them near the automotive section in the area labeled rv supplies.

We keep ours on all the time and are still using the set we originally got for our Jayco 4 years ago. The indoor/outdoor carpet idea is sweet and I will use that next time... Dave
