E4 error code on Dometic Thermostat

Came back to my 3731FL to find the error code flashing. Have looked at manuals, checked the online archives and find no reference to this error. I did find the definition, as an open circuit or out of range outdoor temperature sensor. Does not appear to be stopping anything from working. Anyone else see this? How did you correct it? I'm parked south of Birmingham at the moment so have not had below freezing weather. I do not have a heat pump.

You did not say what year your Montana was, I assume you have capacitive touch thermostats. Call Dometic customer support: (800) 544-4881

You could also reset it and see if the error comes back. To reset:
  • With the HVAC unit off
  • Touch mode and up at the same time, two dashes will appear
  • Touch mode again, reset is complete

According to his profile, the OP has a 2018 model. I remember seeing this problem before, but darned if I can find it. I think resetting the thermostat will correct it. There is no external thermometer on a Montana so the E4 code is likely related to the thermostat having gone off the rails.

According to our service center, there is a sensor in the AC unit that has a connection that either needs replacing or that the sensor has come out of its location and is hanging by the wires. Some of them have burned the connector, but some only need to be pulled apart and dielectric grease put on and reinstalled. Ours has already had the sensor replaced once that cured the problem, but since it came back this summer, I've been too down with my back to actually get up there and do something about it. It will not hurt anything to leave it though according to my dealer.
