Weber Q 120 question - Montana Owners Club

Recently bought this grill but was disappointed to find that instead of the regular size (16oz) propane cylinder, this one is set up for a (14oz) propane cylinder. Just wondering what size cylinder you use and if you have an adapter, etc. The 14oz size are very difficult to find. Otherwise the grill is very nice! Barb

I dont use a cylinders, I bought a 5 gal bottle and conect a hose that I got from CW, I never run out of fuel. I use the bottles from Costco for the lantern and they also would work on the Weber Q.

I just plug our BBQ into the trailer, when we are out of propane, we're really out of propane. Well that's not quite true, I also carry a 20lb propane tank as spare.

I run the small bottles of propane from Costco. When it runs out, I trash it and screw on another bottle. I use these small bottles vs. carrying around another propane tank.

You can buy a Propane Bottle Refill Kit from Harbor Freight, and refill the small bottles from a large tank, much more cost effective, and less trash.

We have the Webber Q and we also use a 5 gallon propane bottle. We have the under storage slide out tray and we have the Q and bottle set on it and just slide out the tray and we can start cooking! When we are leaving a campsite, we just close the slide out tray and lock the compartment. We never take the Q or propane bottle off of the tray, It works great!

We have one of those also and we go both ways.. Bottle and we have the hose and adapter kit.Now that I see that handy, dandy refill kit will try to find one of those around here and if not order one.

I prefer not to carry an additional propane bottle (we don't have the room nor the extra weight capacity) and use the kit from CW (and rv dealers) that connects the grill to the door side propane bottle of our Montana. I also have an adapter on that hose to connect to an external propane bottle for those cold weather stays where we use a 100 lb bottle. This hose stays in place permanently and is coiled inside the propane locker when not in use.

Besides the hose attached to the Montana's bottle I have two 12-ft extensions so I can put the grille nearly anywhere on our site.

Just one more option.

You know, we've looked several times at CW for the connection kits and find all kinds of connectors. But no one has been able to help us determine just which fitting we need! We've tried explaining in great detail that we want to be able to hook the bbq into the propane tank vice using the little bottles. If anyone can tell us what exactly we need, we'd be very grateful! Thanks!

I had a piece of aluminum rod that just needed a home (remember the days when the kids had a flag attached to their banana bikes?) and formed it to hold the larger tank. I replaced the one that came with the grill. It took some trial and error but now I can use the bigger bottle. There is just enough room for it to fit.

I picked up our bulk tank and hose at Home Depot. We're using a smaller 3lb bottle that takes up 1/2 the space and weighs a lot less. They had several lengths (we use a 4ft hose) and several brands. I stuck with the Weber brand just in case they had some weird thread size, we were leaving before I could get back to Home Depot if it didn't fit.

We just bought the above thingy from Harbor freight and it works great.. We have 4 of the small bottles and will now they will never be empty..

TT2 is right! I just installed the CW Stay Flow Plus Kit. Works like a charm. It took about 5 minutes to install, and the hose is plenty long enough to just "poke" through the bottom of the LP tank opening. There is no need to carry an extra tank or those pesky little bottles.

Hey Rich, Just A reminder I read somewhere that It's not safe to transport those little bottles after there refilled. Gas will exspand in heat. When there filled at factory they leave anough room for that. If you fill them to much and when its cold, as they warm up the gas will leak out of the little safety button on top. Becarfull where you store them, Don't want a fellow mocer to go boom!!

We have the big Q grill and bought an a hose from our local Ace Hardware as well as a small tank that can be refilled. Works great. In fact we use it at home so much we plan to get a Baby Q for the 5er.
