IPod incompatible with Jensen

I bought an IPod Classic for the express purpose of loading our music collection on it and then hooking it up to the Jensen entertainment system in our new Mountaineer. That way we would have access to our whole music library on the road. I tried to hook it up today and it seems that the Jensen AWM968 model that came with our 2015 Mountaineer isn't compatible with IPods. I pulled up the manual on line and and while there are instructions for MP3/USB uploads, when I plug the IPod into the USB port the songs won't load.
I'm just wondering if someone knows a work around for this. I find it hard to believe that a new Jensen system wouldn't be able to play songs off an IPod. I did look up the manual for the Jensen WWM970, one model up from ours and it has a feature for uploading MP3/USB/IPod.
To say I'm a little ticked off is a huge understatement. Now I may have to look for a separate docking station to play the IPod Classic.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like the exact same problem I was having. Will hit Best Buy today and get the headphone cable extension and give it a try.

We purchased a cable that connects to the interior of the Jensen unit. There is a builtin stub cable labeled IPoD. The other end of cable connects to the multi purpose jack (charging cable) port of the IPOD. Works very well. I believe I ordered the cable from Jensen directly.

Got the cable, plugged one end into the headphone jack on the IPod and the other end into the Aux A/V In port on the Jensen and Wala. Music.
DW is happy as she can now listen to Great Big Sea all day long.
