Repairs

After a blow out last weekend we are now faced with getting repairs done on our Monte. The driver side rear tire blew and damaged the wheel well area. It completely destroyed the plastic trim, rolled up the metal trim and ripped the insulation out of the area directly above the tire.
Any suggestions from those with experience on who we should look to for the repairs, an RV dealer, body shop or one of the suppliers in Elkhart?

Did it damage the side as well as the fender?

I believe I would check with your RV dealer first. If they can handle the repair, it would be more convenient. Sounds like it will just be replacement parts, which should be a straight forward repair provided they can get the parts in a timely manner. If it was a Goodyear blowout and you kept the tire, some have had success with Goodyear paying for the repairs or providing reimbursements.

Our insurance company, Progressive, was very helpful in finding repair facilities for all of our claims(3). All recommendations worked out great. I guess what I'm suggesting is to ask your insurance company for recommendations.

Isn't the Keytone Montana factory in Elkhart? I'm sure even they could recommend a repair shop. I'm a little envious because living in Southern California I think it is probably the most expensive place to look for a repair. Like Dick mentions, Progressive takes pretty good care of RVers, but maybe you can try your RV insurance company.

There is limited damage to the side, mostly wheel well.

The repair faculties in Goshen and Elkhart know Rv's. We take our Montana to that area for major repair as we are only about 3 hours away. In fact you are closer. You might call the service center and get a recommendation from them. I use D&T service just behind the Montana plant.

I was leaning toward the Elkhart/Goshen area to avoid anything being missed by using a body shop or non-Montana dealer.
Thanks for the information Rich.

Many of the repair facilities in Goshen, Elkhart do over flow work for the manufacturers. I would again suggest you call the service center and get a recommendation for the work you need done.

We have used D&T RV repair,Inc,2719 Firethorn dr, Goshen, Ind Phone 574-533-1803.

The advantage of that area is that these repair facilities do RV repair on a regular basis. They are right in the middle of all the factories and vendors .Money is saved on parts and shipping .In fact I drove over and picked up my own holding tanks at the vendor just around the corner.

We had good experience with D&T as mentioned by Rich on our 2008 Montana about 2-3 yrs ago. One of the owners was formerly employed at Keystone Service Center and still has business ties with some employees there. I had a rear sheet metal issue to be replaced and painted. The painter was actually a Keystone painter on his own time. They did a great job for us.
You may want to call them in advance of going to the Rally. They might even assist if you can send pix of the damaged areas and give you an estimate. It's worth a try. Good Luck

If it is a Goodyear tire and as mentioned it yo have the tire they are good about paying for repairs. Notify Goodyear. Our dealer ordered tha parts and did a nice job of fixing the damage...looked like new

Excellent point about Goodyear Jan. Forgot they are stepping up on tires that blow if it's there product.
