Campground near Cabela's in Hamburg, Pa.

We discovered a really nice campground on our way back home from being evacuated from Myrtle Beach in August. Appalachian Campsites in Shartlesville, Pa. It is six miles from Cabela's just off of I-78 at exit 23. There aren't any fancy cement pads. It is just a down home campground that is very clean, nice pool, very nice people working in the office, nice size sites and lots of activities. We had a nicer and bigger site here than when we stayed at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach for two unhappy weeks. If you love mountain scenery, you'll find it in this area. The view of the mountains when you come out of Cabela's is awesome. Also the campground is centrally located for trips to Reading, Lancaster, Hershey, Gettysburg and the Poconos. The campground is open all year.

We camp there a few times a year. We also stay at Robin Hill (good family activities) and Pine Hill (no pool or many organized activities and is a little quieter). Mountain Springs has a lot of entertainment. They run Rodeos, demo derbies and other events all the time. All the destinations You listed have great campgrounds more local to them . We prefer to camp closer so we don't spend so much time travelling once we arrive at a destination.

John

P.S. We like Myrtle Beach a lot also. We usuaully stay in Barefoot Landing.

Cabela's itself takes the better part of a day. The store is really big and the inside is built of heavy timbers and logs. The displays are unbelieveable along with the aquarium. They also have a large room that is all stuffed trophy Buck along wit hmany stuffed animals from Africa. The center of the store is a 40+ foot high mountain with hundreds of stuffed (mounted) species on display.
The restaurant is pretty good also. Even if You don't hunt the store is like a museum and is worth the stop. Tons of parking.

Appalachian campsites is a nice campground. There are many campgrounds located off of Rt.78. Very nice area. We especially love the Lancaster area.
