I did it---I just bought a new F350 !!!

Just took the plunge and ordered my tow vehicle in order to be sure not to get the new diesel coming out in January. I ordered a 2007 F350 SRW CC LB 4x4 Lariat trimmed truck with diesel and auto transmission. Ford has extended the powertrain warranty on the 2007s to 60 mos/60,000 miles, which eases the concern I had about the tranny as it gives me an additional 2 years/24,000 miles of protection.

I want to thank the many people who helped me reach this decision and who provided very useful advice in connection with selection of the features and options for my new truck. Limited slip rear axle, electronic shift on the fly, and reverse vehicle aid sensor were easy calls thanks to your advice. The overwhelming comments and info in favor of the crew cab made that an easy decision for me as well. Steve Reigle, your experience in driving around the national parks in southern Utah sold me on the 4x4 option. Rich, once I was forced to go with the SRW because of my condo's parking restrictions, I went with your suggestion to get the most truck I could by going with the longbed. Ron and Don, I followed your example and went with the camper pkg in order to get both the rear stabililzer bar and the overload springs in the rear. Had a tougher time choosing between the FX4 pkg and just the skid plate pkg, but ultimately went with just the skids--don't figure to go off road very much, and the dealer made it sound like the heavier shocks in the FX4 pkg would make for a bit rougher ride the rest of the time. Bert, I went with the all season tires rather than the all terrain tires for the reasons you suggested. Don, sorry but took a pass on the moonroof--I've already had one episode of skin cancer, so I'd probably have to keep it closed up most of the time. So I went with the powered rear window to help the air circulation.

Now that I've nailed down the tow vehicle, I'm looking forward to putting my research energy into finalizing my choice of 5er. I'll study up on the competitors to the 3400 that others have identified. Hope by the time of the rally next month to be as confident in my decision to go with a 3400 as I am that I chose the right tow vehicle for my situation and my personal preferences.

Thanks again, and hope to see many of you at the rally next month!!!!

Congrats on the new TV David and Jo-Anna, you will love it. Ordering the truck just the way you want it is so gratifying. No left over feeling of why did I get this or should I have kept looking and gotten one with some other options. Look forward to talking more about it at the rally.

I use my power rear window a whole lot more than I do the sunroof. Next truck probably will skip the sunroof.

Congratulations and good luck on your new F350. I've had my 06 for 1 year and it's been a great vehicle for both towing and a everyday driver.

Even though I'm a Dodge Cummins man, it's nice to have a Montana owner with a F350 to pull you up out when you are down, so to speak. Thanks again Fordzilla "Ron" for the pull this weekend. It's nice that Montana owners help with out being asked.

Congrats on the new purchase, you are one step closer to those pots and pans you want to check out.

Now you have to wait for that phone call. By the way what color did you order?

Too Cool David and Jo-Anna,
You'll love it!

Will this one come with the new 6.4? or still the 6.0?

Thanks for all the good wishes on our purchase of the F350. It sure is nice to feel good after making a decision which I had struggled with it for so long.

In answer to the specific questions some have asked, we got the "classic" 6.0L--I was nervous about getting one of the first 6.4L engines, plus didn't want to be limited to having to use the new ULSD fuel, particularly since it may not be available in Mexico and perhaps not fully available in Canada when we want to travel there.

Dealer says it should take about 10 weeks for delivery--early to mid November, depending on when the factory does an F350 run. Probably be one of the last "classic" 6.0L engines to come off the line before the changeover to the 6.4L. We actually had one dealer say they had used up their "allotment" of 2007 F350s and couldn't order one for me. That encouraged me to order now even though I don't need a tow vehicle until next spring at the earliest.

As for the color of our new truck, it is Arizona beige--to blend in with all the dust and sand we expect to get deposited on it when visiting the national and state parks in the desert southwest. LOL!!!

Picked up mine today...see new thread...it took 10 weeks minus one day. That one day saved us $1,000. Had a new rebate come out this AM!

David congrats on the new Super Duty. I think you will love the performance. I think you have a 100K warrant on the major components, I know my 05 does. By the way, what type of diesel will it burn? Most pumps I see tell you to NOT burn the fuel in the 2007 and newer vehicles. I am just curious if there will be a new fuel.
