Junk Thetford Aqua Magic 2

Well it happened, it was magic alright, Should have listened to all of you about the Thetford. Woke to a flooded bathroom and basement. What toilet compares to the Thetford aqua magic style 2 that comes in the Montana and that will go in place of that junk toilet and will i need to have any plumbing changes or adapters?. Thanks in advance.

You can replace the Thetford with either a Dometic 310 or 320. I just did this project this weekend before the Theford broke. You will have to change your plumbing connection due to the difference in the supply line location.

I agree with this. You will probably be happier with the Dometic 320 but be sure you have enough room for the elongated bowl. The 320 has a "rim" that the 310 doesn't have.

The Dometic will bolt to the flange but you may need to extend the feed line.

We are on our 3rd (warranty change outs) Aqua Junk 2 and it too is on its way out. Since it's on me this time, a Dometic will be the replacement.

It amazes me that Thetford continues to turn out and sell this junk as OEM equipment - but they must be cheap

The Dometic 310 or 320 should fit in their just fine but you will have to do some work on the water line for the Dometic in let for the water supply is on the other side not hard to do at all all the parts you need you can can get at any hard wear store.

When I installed the Dometic 310 there was just enough slack in the water line to hook up without having to change anything. After hooking it up I thought it would be nice to have a shutoff which I then added.

I took the Thetford out as soon as I bought mine and was able to sell it. Too many horror stories with the Thetford. The one in my last sob wouldn't hold water. I installed a Dometic 310 and was able to make the water line work.

The problem i found with mine is. It starts by not holding water, you clean the seal and then lube it with silicone grease over and over but that doesn't last long and then is starts to not hold water again, BUT it now starts holding the foot handle down a little bit and starts to drip water in the bowl, as long as it doesn't hold water your OK up to the point where it fills the black tank and then boom a flood. I found if you lift the handle with your foot after a flush it will stop, but you don't always remember that and whamo, were now looking at a Dometic. but a little to late.

On our Thetford, there is a tab behind the pedal assembly that the return spring hooks onto, and late one night, the plastic tab broke and water was running but the waste valve was closed. Fortunately, half asleep, I was able to get to it and manually close the water valve. I did order a new pedal assembly, and installed it a week later. This held for maybe six months when the pedal started getting difficult to operate. That was when the toilet became fodder for the landfill and a new Dometic 310 took its place.

When we had made our best deal on our last Montana I told the dealer OK if he would do 3 more minor things. One of those 3 things was to pull out the junk Thetford and install a Dometic 320 with sprayer in its place and he agreed to all my requests.

Yep pulled the crap Thetford and replaced it with a Dometic 310. Nothing was wrong with the Thetford just don't like taking chances. This is my 3rd Montana and once I had a problem with something in one of the others I do a preemptive strike on my new one. We all know what the sign of insanity is so fix it before it fails.

Sorry Rich I had to laugh out loud when you said "higher end user" in a description of a type of person using a toilet
