We're buying a Big Sky!!!!!

Negotiations with my local Virginia dealer today were more successful than I expected. Not only was he willing to come below $50,000 for his out the door price for a Big Sky 340RLQ, he agreed to give me the slide awning package at his cost--plus free storage on his lot until August. No way I could turn that deal down, so we're buying a 340RLQ from him. Won't submit the order form until we get more info on the different decor packages, but I expect us to be the proud owners of a new Big Sky by April.

I still remain mystified by the great prices these dealers are giving on these Big Sky units--my local dealer is selling me a Big Sky for about 37% below MSRP and only about $5,000 more than a 3400 that is missing the bigger frig, bigger convection oven, bigger axles, and all the other upgrades that are in the Big Sky but not even available as options on the 3400. With our plans to start full timing this summer, those upgrades are worth the $5,000 to me.

And I don't think these great prices are all that much due to slowness in the RV industry since I'm comparing prices on two rigs being sold by the same dealer in the same market. I'm convinced these great prices have to be due in large part to some big discounts that Keystone is giving right now to encourage their top 50 dealers to push the Big Sky. For example, when I was shopping prices last November for a Montana 3400, my local dealer was several thousand dollars higher than several other dealers in other states, whereas a dealer up near Philadelphia was the lowest bidder of all by at least $1,000. When I asked these same dealers for price quotes for the Big Sky, that Philly dealer was now several thousand dollars higher than my local guy. The only explanation I am aware of is that the Philly dealer is not one of the first 50 dealers selected by Keystone to handle the Big Sky, so they must not be getting as big a dealer discount from Keystone as that initial group of Big Sky dealers.

Whatever the reason for the good prices on the Big Sky, color me happy!!!!!

Congrats on finding the Montana that will be just right for you. We looked forever and found the 3400RL the one that was just right for us. We had to figure in what we wanted in space, price, and weight. I am really happy for you. Now the waiting starts until you can actually pulling it behind your truck. I bet you have a big grin on your face

WoW sounds super, we are really happy for you. Glad you got a good price now all I have to do is try and get a price just close to what you have.

Good luck and happy camping, (if you can call it camping)

That's GREAT news! I don't know if I could stand the waiting part, though. I'd have to drive to it at least once a week just to walk around in it...

Chuck:

The dealer we are buying from is Reines RV Center in Manassas Virginia, just west of Washington, D.C. I dealt with the President Lindsey Reines. Great guy to deal with. You should deal directly with Lindsay or with his sales manager, Doug Magee. If you go thru one of their salesmen and management has to pay a salesman's commission on the sale, I doubt that you will get as good of a deal as I did.

Their website is www.reinesrv.com. You could try the email reines@reinesrv.com, but Lindsey prefers to deal by phone rather than email. Their phone is 800 785-4642 or 703 392-1100.

Good Decision David based on excellent research. The Big sky has some things that are huge positives for the long timer/full timer. The 7k axles. Bigger fridge are high on the list.We actually wish we had opted for the larger fridge in our 3400. There is some loss of storage space due to the larger fridge and the larger window. Looks like you will lose 3 cabinets over the window but the under stove and under fridge storage space should make up for that.If the Big sky had been available when we purchased we probably would have gone that way. Agree with your thought on why the discounted price. Considering other competitive models on the market Keystone needs to get the Big Sky on the road and allow it to prove itself with the consumer( Quality = consumer satisfaction and I have got this hunch that Keystone will play that card.

Congratulations David and Jo-Anna! Reines RV is only a few miles down the road from where I live. This is the place I bought my 3400RL. Are you planning on going to the RV show in Chantilly this weekend? I'll be there tomorrow.

Dave and Jo-Anna, Congratulations, we are so happy for you. Our dealer just emailed and said he would have a Big Sky on his lot by the end of February. We can't wait to see it.
