Built in vaccum vrs portable vac?

Can I get some feed back on built in Vacuum? Does it work good. Is it convient? Would you rather use the vacuum from home? Pro's and con's please.

Does the built in do a good job? Is it easy to empty? Is the long hose a pain to use and store?

We think it works pretty well, but more often than not we pull out our smaller/easier to handle little "Bissel" (sp?)to clean up. It is a little bit of a hassle to get the onboard vacuum, hose and attachments out to use. Just my two cents.

We have had the built-in vacuum in all three of our rigs and it is the only vacuum in the rig. The biggest problem is hose and accessory storage (We currently keep all under the bed). All three vacuums have worked exceptionally well. We did add a vacuum controlled beater brush to the system which is an excellent addition. The best way I can describe it is it has no problem picking up anything and everything (particularly cat litter that is kicked onto the carpeting). DW and I both agree that we would not be without it.

As I do most of the cleaning in ours, I have had the opportunity use both. I like the built in, it does a reasonably good job. You do have to pull on the hose to reach far corners. I have ordered a Turbo head for it. The hose collapses well. The tools come in a net bag. Everything stores easily.

We use ours exclusively and it works good. We also have the beater brush head. You'll find when you go full timing in Oct, '14 that storage space will be a premium. We opted to use a Bissell carpet shampooer in the space a portable vacuum would store in. We full time with 2 Maltese dogs and a cat so we shampoo about ever 2 to 3 months. It's amazing how much dirt 16 feet can drag in.

The DW is definately a vacuum cleaner officionado and she says it is the whip. As for storage, our 3402 has a compartment for the vac-so no problem. I have been known to pull the truck alongside and vacuum it as well. It's a keeper for us.

Great feed back as usual!!!! Thinks guys. I thought the central vac with a rechargeable Dyson broom might be a good combo. I have a small cat. Not as much tracking in and out. The RV lifestyle is more tracking in and out than regular stick built home life.

I guess we are just the opposite of everybody here, had the built in, in the last one, didn't want it in this new one. We found that by the time we got the hose out and put back, we could do the job with the Dyson Animal 41, much faster and much more pickup, then the built in. Just what your experience tells ya, what is best for you.

X2 with grayghost. We use a small handheld Shark with has much more pickup than the central vac. It is just quicker and easier than messing with all the hose. But really either way it only takes about 7 or 8 minutes to vac the whole 300 sq feet anyway.

Had one in our 2008 3400RL and did not like it. Opted out when we ordered current unit. $29 Dirt Devil upright does a MUCH better job and is actually less hassle to get out and put away.

if you get one, buy the powered head for it.makes it work well. Dw approves, thats enough for me. In the winter she brings in the powered head and keeps it in the basement to use on the central vac in our house. that way she dosen't have to drag the power unit downstairs when she needs it

We have the built in Itervac in our 3402RL and my wife is a clean freak and she Loves the VAC!,powerfull, reaches everywhere,we like the little brush attachment it grabs cat hair real well and the bags are pretty cheap and a 3 pack last for quite a while

We also have the Itervac but need to purchase the power brush head. Which brush/pickup attachment should we buy and where from.

We opted not to get the built in vacuum strictly for space considerations. The unit had to go somewhere and the hose had to be stored. We already owned a good portable unit in the stick house. We brought that with us when we went full timing and haven't regretted the decision.

The central vac in our 2007 3400 is great. As long as you have the right attachments. We purchased a turbo cat spinning brush head that runs off of vacuum. Works better than the vacuum we have at home... We also have an attachment for cleaning the lint out of our Splendide stackable dryer.

the intervac is just the brand name of the unit. The turbo cat is the air powered beater bar that most buy for these. they work well.
