Toilet over flow

We left this morning to do a little site seeing in Bartlesville, OK. As usual turned water off outside, ran faucets and flushed toilet to relieve pressure on lines. Returned this afternoon, wife turned on water supply as I walked into unit, ran kitchen facuet for a second, then ran bathroom sink for a second, then opened toilet, to my suprise water was at the top of bowl. I stepped on flush, water ran over top. I know this sounds like a stupid question, how can this happen. Water pump is off. Water had came to a very small trickle after turning water off before leaving. My only guess would be that water supply was not totaly shut off, and somehow toilet valve had stuck open. Minor water on floor and a small mmount in area below toilet area. we have a 2011-3100RL
Any guess or suggestions on why or how to prevent again, other than obvious of disconnecting water supply.
Thanks

We had a similar experience. The only thing I could figure was the water wasn't quite all the way off, or leaked, for the tank flush, which we had left connected.

You should confirm water shutoffs are actually working. Since I seen plenty of leaky shore water faucets, I also use the ball type shutoffs for all water lines. Sure it's a lot of shutoffs, but when the water needs to be shutoff, it better be shutoff. I am not as strong as I used to be and sometimes shutting off the water supply valve doesn't shut off so these extra shutoffs have saved my bacon.

However, let's not go into how many times I've disconnected water lines before a shutoff and got sprayed. This is how I found out I am not as strong any more.

I hope you find the problem location. It's nice to know you need an extra shutoff, or there's a bad valve somewhere, or something else. Problems sources that are not identified will rear their ugly heads once again. I also hope you report back what you find.

Chuck and Debra,
Sorry to hear about the problem. I hope it was not too bad. Have you been having trouble with the toilet valve sticking open? It seems to me the odds of the outside water valve not closing completely AND the toilet bowl valve sticking open at the same time would be astronomical. If that is the case then you folks need to head for the closet casino you can find! Good luck and if you do find out what the problem was please let us know. Happy Travels, Dennis.

Is there any possibility that the black tank flush was left on when you left? Even then, there would have to be a leaky toilet valve to allow it to backfill rather than flow out the vent tube atop the trailer. Our black tank flush is left hooked up to the outside shower so I can see this as a possibility of the outside shower was left on when the water was turned back on. Sounds like you were extremely fortunate that the water was shut off when you were gone and that when you turned it back on the bowl filled. There are only two sourced, from the pedal activated flush valve or being backfed through the black tank. I would think you foot valve was stuck and when you turned the water back on the bowl started filling. I think it may be wise to start checking toilet bowl first when turning water on, after your post, my hookup procedure and checks will be re-prioritized!!

Thanks for the replies. We now have a brand new brass ball shut-off valve right before the filter. Pressure here at this park is high, but we do have a standard 40 lb pressure reducer in line.
We did disconnect the hose from main line while we where gone this time. GUN SHY!!!!
Really not sure as to how or why it happened, but am doing every thing I can to insure it doesn't happen again.
Tank flush was connected, but off. Water in toliet was clean.
Thanks again
