Dometic Refrig light stays on (solved)

I had a problem with our Dometic Refrig inside (door) light staying on even when you push the close button. After $44.00 for parts (four push Rivets @ $6.00 each) and a switch I found the problem was operator.

The Manual has a wiring digram and show the light and door switch but also a switch for L.A.T. wired to the light. The low ambient temperature switch is up on the top accessible when the freezer door is open. The manual say the it should be turned on when the temperature is below 50 degree F. Well I had that switch on and did not know why. Now I know what it does and how it works.

When the L.A.T switch is on it turns on the inside light all the time. When I turned the L.A.T. switch off the door switch works.

Problem solve.

I guess when all else fails read the manual. I will have to remember this one. Thanks for the post.

John, I have a question.

When you close the door, does the light REALLY go out?

I'm with Wayne on this - are you ABSOLUTELY sure that the light was staying ofn and that it is now going off? Reminds of a tree in the forest...

Reminds me of one of my mods. I bought a miniature toggle from Radio Shack and installed it on the lamp base (prior to this had to pull the lens and bulb). Since I'm a part timer it allows us to switch lamp off when we get home, unload, and can leave the doors open to air it out.

I just checked my manual...not all refrigerators have the Low Amb Control. Mine does not have it.

Ours doesn't either. We do have a climate control switch but that's for use in high humidity weather.

I put my digital camera in the refer, set the timer on it, closed the door and took a picture to see if the light was on. My question now is, was the light on or did the flash go off?

Glad you fugured yours out.

That is not conclusive evidence as to whether the light was on or off.

Was the camera pointing at the bulb?
What was the ISO setting?
Did the flash misfire?

I don't want to turn this into a "Louvered," topic.
