Sodona, hwy 89 alt

Thinking of heading to Sodona Monday, been there before and can remember someone saying that 89 alt is doable and other said not.
We will be going from Sodona to Flagstaff. Anybody gone that way. I remember seeing a couple of Riggs coming from that way.
Tight road don't bother me, just want to be sure it is doable.

Thank for any help
Mark

They just had a fire up there, not sure the road is open???

Check for length of legal rig length.

Personally having driven it with just Big Butt, we would NOT tow it. Maybe a 16 footer, but, never Tana.

Cannot advise it with a Montana.

We traveled that route last month and will do it again this week without the trailer. The road through Sedona involves 7 round a bouts. I believe it is "doable", but personally, I wouldn't want to. We watched a 36' 5er maneuver through very slowly. The fire is now contained.

It is a restricted route for motor carriers...ought to tell you something. And the car tourists would not like to see you towing your rig up to Flag that way either. You would probably gather a few one finger salutes from some...but not the locals. They would just shake their heads from side to side. John

OK, Guys. I just traveled that route (truck only) 3 days ago. There are seven round-a-bouts. It can be done, but I really wouldn't want to. You'd be too busy watching the road and maneuvering and not be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Also..new update. Route 89 is closed between Sedona and Flagstaff due to the recent wild fire. Once you reach Sedona, you have to turn around and take I-17 to Flagstaff.

I get daily informational feeds on 89 open/closed and fire situation from a friend that lives in the area. (in fact she evacuated for a night or two during the last fire).

There are flare ups, yesterday the 60 mph winds took out a power line and there was some concern again, at least a 20 acre fire as of late last night.

They had 89 open after the fire, but, closed it again last night for a while and it still may be closed.

The wild fires are bad in Arizona and California and Oregon this year and that is only what I have heard of.

Be careful folks, very careful.

And, 89 is still not gonna be something CountryGuy and I ever tow a Montana around on.

And for the record you don't wanna do Jerome to Prescott either.

I'll second that, along with the other warnings from members. We've driven Jerome to Prescott, 179 from I17 to 89a and 89a from Sedona to Flagstaff. All without the Monty.

I do know someone who traveled 89 with a 38' 5th wheel. It was scary and the people behind them weren't too happy. I wouldn't risk it. We drove it in our truck and I can see why you wouldn't want to pull your RV through there.
