2nd AC unit?

Could anyone advise me as to which AC unit I should buy for the 2nd unit over the bed? What size should be sufficient as a stand alone since my 1st unit is 15K and ducted! Thanks!

We have dometic 13500 the same as the factory would have installed. We had it installed a year after we bought the Montana.

13.5 K Penguin, lower profile. Tied into the existing ducts and Zone 2 on the CCC. Love it.

I have a portable AC unit in my rv as a second unit. It looks like a dehumidifier. It's small.. the only thing is you need to have the vent tubes out the window. Mine fits through one of the side window and doesnt let much hot air back in. Much cheaper than roof top ac. Try it!

My second unit is slated for the prepped area in the master bedroom. I plan a 13,500 to keep power down and I think this is enough to keep the front of the rig cool while the existing works on the middle and rear of the rig. I also think that's enough to have some of the overflow into the middle area to help out the rear unit.

I'm not sure if I would get the low profile because at last check the 2nd air is on a downward slope of the roof and I might need a more expensive, same rating 13.5K unit.

While power is wired to the prepared area, there is no ducting or control wiring and I plan to use this as a discrete unit and not tied into the existing control panel or ducting.

Now all I need is some money.... and to finish the multitude of projects at the stickhouse (which is sucking up the funds so far.

I decided on the 13.5K Penguin since the trailer was prewired for this unit to interface with the thermostat. Also had the heat strip added.

Low Profile 13,500 Penguin not tied to duct work. Only really needed when the temps get over 90 which is May to November here. As mentioned above, if you leave the bedroom door open while it is running, it helps considerably to quick cool the unit when you first arrive at your site.

I purchased a low profile Carrier 13.5 from tweetys best price that I found. I installed it myself. I mainly use it to cool down after a days travel or when down south when its hot and muggy I just turn the switch and she runs till I turn it off very cold in no time.Good Luck Jack

We have a 13500 Dometic we use it as much or more than the one in the rear. It is hooked to the duct work so run it by its self if we hsve company or are watching tv. Jim

We also have the low profile carrier with the heat tape. It really does a good job of cooling down the front and helps with the rear as well. It is not ducted and is somewhat noisy, but it's usually running during the day when we are out.

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. After much thought, I believe I will probably go with the 13500 Dometic. With my fifth wheel (see signature), my original AC (15K) unit is still on the flat part of the roof. The roof declines right after that towards the back, Therefore, my proposed 2nd unit will not be any higher than my first (so I don't need the low profile). Again, thanks for your input!

Ours is a low profile Coleman Polar Mach, 13.5. Works well but I wish it were ducted. Our year Montana did not have ducting for the front AC.

Good information as we are considering adding a 2nd AC where the bedroom vent is now. It's pre-wired for it. The current AC will NOT cool the entire RV.

In a word. DO IT.

If you are planning on staying in any of the southern states in the summer months it is money well spent in my opinion.

Ours is a 15k coleman mach.
