Battery connections

I know it's on here somewhere but I can't find it for some reason. I'm planning on installing two 12 volt Deep Cycle Marine batteries in the Monte before heading South. I know there is a diagram here that showed how to hook the two batteries together but I can't find it. Can you help me or tell me how this is done! Thanks in advance!

There are many pages on the internet explaining this but here is one you can check out quickly:

Hope that helps.

Very simple. For 12 volt batteries, positive terminals get hooked together and the negative terminals get hooked together. It's referred to as parallel wiring.

Rondo, get a can of that battery terminal protector spray from the auto parts store, it sprays Red stuff. Works good.
Many other things do the same thing, but I like the Red stuff.

X2 on what Tom S said. That will almost double the amount of time it takes to run them down. There-by increasing your amp hours which is the key. If you hook them up in series, you will be putting 24 volts to the 12 volt system which may cause problems. I think I have said that correctly.

Ron,
The link Ed (Irlpguy) posted is the picture view. I notice the slight variance in connection. As stated the batteries in parallel are red to red and black to black. The slight difference is the negative is connect to the left side and the red is connected to the opposite side of the parallel bank. This balanced the cable resistance introduced by the parallel cables. It keeps the batteries working equal instead of one providing just a little more power all the time (because it would be closest to the load).

Ron, I did what both John and Ozz proposed a couple of years ago and it's worked fine ever since. Of course few would want to argue with Ozz and John on stuff like this.

The link I provided shows a picture of the "best" way to connect two 12V batteries in Parallel which balances the charge and discharge of both batteries.

A picture is worth a thousand words....

Do get some terminal spray as Ozz suggests.
