hot water heater won't fire on gas

It fires up then shuts down after a few seconds. Does it for the 3 cycles, then nothing. Any ideas. Iwas thinking a thermocoupler but can't find one.

Electric off? Propane will not fire up if water is hot.

Just a thought - you may want to take the burner tube off and clean as well as the gas orifice hole. I had to do this to my burner.

Are you having trouble with any of the other gas appliances? Could be the regulator.

Sounds like you have most everything checked out to the point it about has to be the gas valve at the water heater. I'm not that familiar with the newer models with electronic starters, but if it had a thermocouple that heats up to open the gas valve like the older ones, thats where I'de look. Good luck and Happy Trails.
