Latest Update Bent Wet Bolt

Arrive at the Twin Falls/Jerome KOA around 4PM (CST). While setting up I discovered a bent Wet Bolt. I have to get this replaced before we move on.

I will place a call to MorRyde and Keystone in the AM. We are about 354 miles from the Keystone plant in Pendleton, OH. Possible a resource there.

Looks like a minor fix.

Update photos 21 Jun 12: http://s858.photobucket.com/albums/a...on/Wet%20bolt/

Very slow and limited download capability. Only two pics at this time

Update 22 Jun: We took our rig to Southern RV and Marine, Jerome, Idaho for repairs. They did a great Job. They completed the job by 1145 AM. They even found a dealer in the next town that had wet bolts.

I had the service tech (Steve) to torque all the bolts. He found one more that was not to spec.

We can continue our travels on schedule.

George the folks in Pendelton are very nice and will help if they can. I went there last yr with my axels but the guy they recomended to rebend them was backed up for 6 weeks so I waited till we got home and replaced mine. IIRCC they build 3 models below montanas and mountaineers. You folks be careful and enjoy the ride.

Hi George,
We are sorry to hear that you've bent one of your shackle bolts. Like Dave I'd really like to see some pics of what actually is bent. And if you have one bent you most likely have more either bent/broken or getting ready to bend or break. I am very surprised to learn that the bolt was a wet bolt. Supposedly these bolts are heavy duty. On our old rig we had major bent and worn out shackles as well as bolts. But they were the dry type. Never had a bit of trouble after we installed a Heavy Duty wet kit. Now you've got me looking at yet another issue with the rigs! It never ends.

Good luck and please keep us up to date with whatever you end up doing.

On another subject. Did you get to see the BIG trees? Sure hope so. Later, Dennis

George, that looks like the hangers spread apart a bit during the bending process. I would suggest you get the plates and gussets welded on the spring hangers after you get the bolt replaced...

Looks like that hanger took quite a side load. Perhaps your 450 is too much hoss for the Monty's suspension. Concur with Dave on closing up the hanger bracket, it's on my list of things to do. Good catch and should serve as a reminder for the rest of us to do a good post arrival inspection.

George, glad you got there safely, sorry we missed you. Hope you get your unit fixed. Ours is still at the rv shop there in Twin Falls and we are back home, family crises. Say hi to it for me, will you!

Dave. I will get the hangers welded after we get hbome. Thanks. It was one of those things that I put off to long.

Paul and Jan. Contacted MorRyde. Work in progress.

Mike. 450 pull this rig right out its socks or should I say socket on a curve.

Steve. We are just happy to hear you guys made it home ok. We understand the family crisis. Heck. After seeing your axle I even gave it a pat. To big to hug.

Dennis. I agree. One more thing to check. I have just been doing a visual on the wet bolts. Now I will add torque to my list when I do my U bolts. I did not think this would happen since I had service done at MorRyde in Sep 2011. The last statement is not a shot a MorRyde. It just points out we need to add this to our lists of checks.

Thanks Dennis. We were lucky to have found the bent bolt and be near a dealer that found another wet bolt for us.

George,
Rally Bonus.
I hear Paul K is good at Q'ing u-bolts and greasing wet bolts. If Jan doesn't have him busy doing honey do's, engage his service.

Steve and Patti. Even though they had to go to Twin Falls to get the bolt, they were finished by 1145. We pray the rest of the trip goes like the first half. Prayers for Patti and family.
