No ground in 5th wheel

GOOD DAY
I have a question. Our new to us 2008 Montana 3465SA. When it is plugged in to the outside plug on the barn which is 30Amp so I have a 30/50 amp adapter I have no ground in the trailer. I have a power strip which tells me if the ground is working. I have ground in the barn but no ground in the trailer. WHY.

Either the 30 amp receptacle is not wired correctly, that is, the ground is not connected, or your adapter is bad. The round tang is the ground connector part of the plug, so somewhere there is an open point not getting to your rig.

First thing is to verify that the 30 amp outlet has a good ground connection. Kill power to it and open it up and check for tight connections inside the outlet.

If you have proven for a fact the 30 amp outlet has a good ground connection, then the problem is most likely in the trailer power cord. Either the ground connection in the connector is not making good contact. Or the ground at the other end of the cord is not connected securely to the frame. Check both ends for good connections.

Could also be a problem in the adapter. Use an ohm meter to verify ground continuity thru the adapter.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me. It was a bad extension cord. Someone had removed the ground part of the extension. I took the rig back in to dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong! Of course they couldn't.... It was a case of the old timers disease. Once I fixed the plug everything worked great. Good luck and let us know what you find out. HamRad

Check inside the plug on your 50amp cord that plugs into the trailer. The stress of the weight of the cord will pull wires loose on the inside of the plug, I my case it pulled one of the power wires loose, Get one of those right angle adapters to take off the strain.

I had this problem on a previous Montana and found the main ground in the circuit breaker panel to be loose. Tighten the lug nut and it fixed the problem...Good Luck.
