Wal-Mart greeters…

Went to Wal-Mart today and learned that they did away with the greeters. First I heard of it.

On Edit: I found this!

Two years ago at the Hypermart in Topeka, KS there was a bad snow storm and it was just before Christmas. I came in the store and couldn't find a cart. The greeter at the door saw me looking at the empty cart isle and said, " If you want a cart go out there (meaning the parking lot) and get your own damn cart". I couldn't believe he said that since I had yet to say anything. I wrote an on line complaint to Walmart customer service and they blew it off with a thank you for your business stock reply. I guess they were already on the removal list even then.

The locals here kept the Super Walmart out for years. We have a Walmart now with a greeter. It closes April 10th and a Super Walmart opens April 11th. There goes a lot of mom and pop stores.

May be, but that is where I shop for the most part. They are always close to where we are, and I love the convenience of the stores.

Still have them here in Colorado Springs. It may sound hokey but I like saying hello to them. I suspect some of them are just trying to make a few extra dollars to supplement their retirement (at least I hope so). I know they're not "haulin' down the big bucks".

We stopped in some in Oklahoma and Kansas on our way home and didn't see any. Struck me as odd, but I guess I just figured they had a bad help day. Wonder what they have in place to keep folks from stealing them blind?

My grandmother was a Wal-Mart greeter. She did not work because she had too, she worked because she wanted too. I think she would leave most of here Wal-Mart salary in Vegas when she and her girlfriends would go. She always said the money she earned was for having extra fun that she would not have otherwise. Wal-Mart was always good to her and always worked with her. She worked until she could not do so any more physically.

Our local Wal-Mart still has greeters. I have never had a unpleasant experience with any of them. I always think of my Grandmother when I see them.

As for Wal-Mart being evil, they are no more evil than any other retailer. The same old fears that you always hear of Wal-Mart running businesses out of town has been untrue. The only business negatively affected by Wal-Mart was the ones who kept banker hours and were lacking in customer service. The rest have thrived and are still in business. The presence of Wal-Mart and their success here in town has attracted other retailers as well.

It's not just Walmart, but I beg to differ on their effect on retailers. When I was mayor Levis' wanted the small town feel for their commercials so they filmed a couple in Council Grove in front of historic buildings. They wouldn't sell their most popular jeans to our local men's store, however, because of contracts they had with Walmart, Sears, Penny's and others so then the kids bought in the big town and our men's store died. Same thing with our shoe store only that was Nike and Addis etc. Then people have to go to the big town to get men's underwear and shoes so while they're there they buy food and get their prescriptions filled and now you have to drive 40 miles one way for anything you want. Not because our local merchants were greedy or poor operators, just because the big boys forced them out.

I wonder if that's why there was no one at the door last night when we went in. It seemed kinda strange that no one was at the door. Was almost like should we go in or not lol lol.... Walmart is one of my favorite stores. I like to go there after midnight when all the zombies and freaks are out. You can get a good laugh cause all those pics of People of Walmart are real lol lol...

I was back to the W/M today to purchase some Goo-Gone for the dreaded task of cleaning the front of the Monty. It does feel funny not to see anyone at the door anymore. I believe they just moved them away from the door. I saw one employee that ask us if we needed anything and another one I was talking with told me someone walked right out the front door today without paying. I would think that the greeters were a good theft deterrent.

Oh no, Wal-Mart isn't evil. Being the leader in buying cheap foreign goods (forcing other companies to follow suit or be undersold), paying extremely poor wages to their employees, offering very little to no health care for their employees, strong arming small towns and communities into getting subsidies they can't afford to Wal-Mart, buying goods from Chineese sweat shops, training their managers to encourage employees that ask about full time benefits to sign up for Medicaid that they qualify for due to their low wages, and the beat goes on and on. In the days of Sam Walton it WAS a great company built on innovation and strong ethics. Now days they would sell out the entire USA to make a buck. Everyone likes to save money, but there is an extremely high cost for those lower prices! I for one will support the small local guy whenever possible. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Prime example is what has become the Evil Empire. Please don't take my word or opinion on it. Just look into it for yourself.
