Noise from propane tank when furnace is running

This is our second issue of the day- water flow also posted.

This problem just started. When the furnace is running we have, in the past not had a problem. Have used a tank of propane from the passenger side and there was no issue. Changed to driver side tank and worked well for two days. About an hour ago we started to get a rather loud noise (a loud hum almost a whistle) when the furnace is calling for propane (I can just imagine trying to sleep with this right under the bed).

Checked the tank area thinking it was a vibration of the tank with the frame but holding the tank does not change it. We have the original propane set up from the factory. With a red regulator on that side. There is a definate vibration in the system and may be from the regulator but can't tell for sure.

Any ideas to solve the problem would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dean

I had a similar issue when my unit was brand new. The dealer changed out the red regulator and that fixed it.

That is a problem many have had on Montana's and other brands including us. The red regulator can be the problem as well as the OEM regular regulator. Sometimes turning the propane off then back on will stop it... Oh..This is Rich on Helen's PC...My ..trusty HP laptop went belly up and is in the shop.

This was a topic in a recent issue of Trailer Life in the RV Clinic column. "Bob"(can't remember his last name) said it was due to a harmonic resonance in the regulator and/or pig tail fittings.I e-mailed him and asked if it was a safety issue or just an annoyance. He replied it was not a safety issue just an annoying sound. I gathered from what he said that one could spend a lot of time and possibly money repeatedly replacing parts that were developing this harmonic resonation. Since in our case we do not hear it in the rig, only when outside, we decided to just live with it for now. Best wishes, Jay and Kathy

Have it in mine and after checking for any malfunction and leaks I ignored it. I also only get it from the side with the cross over regulator so I am guessing the harmonics/vibration is the likely explanation.

We had that hummmmm on both sides. Sometimes we have it...sometimes not..It seems to be there in colder weather. Changing over the tank no matter which tank was humming stopped the hum. Sometimes disconnecting the tank and reconnecting the tank stopped it. We did change out the red regulator to the proper psi regulator and haven't heard it since. Talked to the Marshall regulator folks and they told me about the harmonic thing. Also told me to be sure that little screen under the primary regulator was clean.
