Short bed no slider

I seem to be ok with not having a slider hitch with my old Cougar 277. Now that I have my 310ret do I need a slider hitch? Look like I have 80 deg before hitting the trailer.

I'd say not if your careful. If you crank around too far, you'll be buying a new back window

I wouldn't want to find out the hard way.
I have one so that is one less thing I have to think about or remember.
BTW, mine is a Pullrite. No levers to pull and nothing to forget (except the tug test)

Good to do the research ahead of time! Hopefully you don't need one.

Good friend knocked out his back window of his short bed with an older SOB. But it had squared off lower front corners. After he bought his Montana with the contoured front he had no more problems. But I think he was also much more careful making tight back in turns also.

I have a short bed F250 and a 2011 Big Sky 3580RL. My hitch is a B & W Companion that does not slide. I can make very sharp turns when backing up, I even installed 3 X-Factor cross braces so I could make sharp turns. Never a problem.

I have a slider, but in the last three years we've never used it even when we backed in a tight U. I do have Joyce outside and watching and take it slow when we do something like that. I'm pretty sure the right contours affecting the trailer in one way and the truck in another could cause things to go bad so we watch it closely.

I had a slider on my short box Dodge and still popped the back window.. What happened is it popped while pulling forward while turning tight in a turn around.. Needless to say I have a different hitch...

We have a short bed and a Reese slider. We now have a 2013 3582RL and so far have not had to use the slider but you can see what can happen from Drifty1's photo. I have the slider "just incase". With the newer nose caps on the Montana's and other units it is a lot easier to make those sharper turns BUT don't get over confident and think you can make any turn you want because you could end up like Drifty1!

I have a slider hitch, but in 14 years of towing, have never used it.

What was the brand of slider was it that allowed this to happen?

Reese 16k slider... But it did not happen backing up,it happened while driving forward so the hitch had nothing to do with the busted window.. It was caused by the Dodge turning short and some potholes in the lot I was turning around in..

Understood. Bummer that happened to you. I'll bet that ruined your day.
FWIW, my Pullrite slides going forward or backward. Hope that never happens to you again!

If I am not mistaken my "short" bed F350 is just over 6 1/2 feet. I wouldn't swear to it but didn't older trucks have short beds that were closer to 6' long?

I guess the key is the newer style slanted and corner cut fronts on the fivers. Just yesterday we were parked at a tight angle while I stepped inside a CG office for a minute. When I came out I couldn't help but notice that my front cap was still about 5" or more from my back window.

Have a slider, never used it.

I have a short bed truck with a dent in the cab. Which when I purchased the RV the salesman said would not happen. I was lucky I didn't break my window. I now have a sidewinder pin box installed after denting my cab. I know now I can't hit the truck.

And that's exactly why my new D'max is a long bed. If it wasn't, the only hitch I would use is a Pullrite slider. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I have a short bed Dodge MegaCab with a Superglide Hitch. Do I absolutely need the slider? With the Superglide I know I can turn 90 degrees if necessary and I can drive and backup at camp grounds without worrying about the trailer hitting the truck cab. I have used this hitch with a 2003 and 2012 Montana and it's great. Any short bed TV of mine will have an auto slider.
