Furnace problem

Our furnace is cranky. Last night it went down to 17 and the furnace would not light off. Fan worked OK. Tried it a dozen times. Luckily we have an electric blanket and two dogs. This am went trouble shooting and gave it one last try and it came on. It had been cranky before and I replaced the thermostat this summer and that seemed to have cured it until now. Any ideas since it is supposed to be down to 22 tonight? Thanks

Is it working now? Sounds like a gas problem, since the fan was running. It was getting the demand.

Here's a problem we had, the gas flow was very low even though the tank was full and sometimes the furnace was starved for gas. I pulled the tank (left front) out and found that the rubber gas line had a kink in it, it must have happened the last time I filled it when I put it back in it's holder. Straightened out the kink and all is well.

Ah - the old kink in the line issue, eh!

Had as similar problem in our 2003 LP Onan generator install. The dealer kinked the line behind the LP tank. It took a little Russian mechanic at Cummins to figure that out after the Dealer replaced the mother board and even the whole generator trying to fix it. Worst part was, Cummins charged me because it was the Dealers error not thiers - go figure.

Glad you got it fixed up - nice to have a heater about now!

I experienced a similar problem. The fan would run but no heat. The furnace would light from time to time but was not consistent. Found the limit switch was bad.

We have found with our unit that when a tank gets low,but not enough to switch over, the furnace acts up also. the fan runs, won't ignite etc: switch over to your full tank and see what happens. Good bet that is the problem. Seen this happen to a couple other owners also.

Still yes and no. Think it is some type of gas supply problem as suggested, but found no kinks and the problem occurred right after switching to a full tank. Will check the limit switch next. Should only be down to 29 tonight and then above freezing after that. Thanks for the info.

If all else fails, check the battery. A low battery can cause this also.

When ours quit, a very small wire had come loose. RV repair guy found it in back of the wall in the basement near the water pump.

When we replaced our cooling unit on the Dometic the repairman also checked the gas pressure and found that it was at 7 oz and should have been at ten plus oz. He adjusted it up to above ten oz and now the furnace, stove ,frig, water heater all work much better. You will need someone that is knowable on how to check and adjust the pressure to do it. This is something not to mess with unless you know what you are doing. This is a no guessing game here. Get a qualified person to do it.
