Unhappy Montana owner right now!

Upon returning from a weekend at the lake, I was about to unhitch the trailer when I noticed the stripes on the side of camper did not line up and the silicone was broken. When I started to lift the camper off of the truck, the stripes lined back up. There is obviously some welding broken around the pin box! I left it on the truck to prevent any further damage, especially to the sides of the camper. My dealer will be getting a call first thing in the morning! The camper was delivered in April.

Not good. Hopefully your dealer will quickly resolve.

Be sure and call Keystone customer service and open a file on it. Letting the dealer work with Keystone without having the ability to talk to both parties yourself can leave you wondering where you really stand.

Look at the trim at the bottom of the overhang where the brown stripe is. You will see a tan line along the bottom. That is where the stripe was cut at the trim at the factory. Watch that tan, longitudinal line disappear as I put pressure on the front jacks of the camper. Over a 1/4" of flex at the bedroom slide corner.

Thank you for the advice. I figured I should do something of the sort as picky as Lippert is about their warranty work.

Hi

I can see what you are talking about. This is not normal.

Follow the recommendations about contacting Keystone directly and get the name of the person you talked to and make a written record of the conversation.

Keystone cheated me out of $20,000 in repairs because the dealer didn’t report the problems to them.

I will send you a PM.

If that is a welding and or frame issue, the dealer will be no help.

I only had to watch the video once to see what is obviously going on. There is no question you are dealing with frame flex whether or not some welds are broken won't be determined until a proper inspection is done. This just happens way too often and seriously needs to be addressed by Keystone and the frame manufacturer. When mine was "fixed" and I inspected the welds I have never seen such garbage welding anywhere, this is not acceptable.
Good luck with the repairs and hold Keystones feet to the fire until it is addressed and repaired.

I recently had a more severe problem with ours, although it did start out small like your rig is doing. It ended up having a broken frame along with a number of bad welds, mostly in the front of the driver's side propane compartment. It is in this thread: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=69072

Good luck with the repairs.

You might want to consider going to the fall rally if you can. Keystone techs are at the rally. This is the perfect place to address all your issues.

That may..or may not be broken welds there is a issue were the gel coat breaks aways from the aluminum frame it is attached to and moves only when it is hooked t o the truck and returns when it is released. We hade the same issue on both our Montana's.The problem was corrected at last years fall rally.

It is what I call the " long screw " fix some here will know what I am talking about.

On the other hand it could well be the frame breaking. The fall rally is the place to find out.

Not to be a cheerleader for Lippert, but 1/4in of frame flex is nothing. I believe you are noticing it because the trim is not secure so it is not flexing with the frame, or moving independently from the wall giving you a nice visual line to reference. It is good to have it all inspected to be sure, but it may not be as bad as you fear.

I'm pretty sure the trim is screwed to the bottom of the steel frame ... the sidewalls inclusive of the aluminum frame are attached to the same steel frame. They should not move separate from one another. This is not the same thing as the movement seen between pinbox and front cap that was talked about earlier in another thread.

That trim molding is definitely not attached to the steel frame. Saw that when I had repairs made a couple months ago. I also forgot to mention, if they do have to make repairs, likely they will have to drop the Filon material from under the front of the rig, and it would be wise to check around where the pin box is attached, as we had a lot of cracking in the frame structure and welds there as well. Of course, we have quite a few more miles on this rig, about 40,000.
