Tailgate

Witch is better to pull with the oem gate or a v gate.
what are the pros and cons of both in your view.

I have a stromberg carlson V gate that has a place for the OEM backup camera. It's nice not to worry when I'm hitching or unhitching about having to raise or lower the tailgate especially when trying to hook up at an angle that might cause the tailgate to contact the rig. That said, I'm convinced it's a personal preference and not that big a deal either way.

I use the OEM gate because I have a hard roll type locking tonneau cover. After unhooking I typically pull the cover closed to hide whatever I may have in the bed. When towing I can also pull the cover back near the hitch to hide stuff I may be carrying in front of the hitch. Locks every 6".
When not towing it stays closed and locked as I carry a small tool chest in the bed.

I agree with Dick, whatever you like, I use an aftermarket V gate because I am too lazy to raise and lower the tailgate

I used to take the tail gate off on the 07 F350 now woth the 12 F350 it has camera in the tail gate and haven't really looked to see if it is easy enough to disconect to take off. When it was off i would securre it foward in the bed standing up with padding and shock cords.

IMHO I always thought they are a waste of money but some people like em, Maybee when I get older and my Memory is Shot I will buy one it could save me a tailgate, until then I will spend my cash on something else Like FUEL!

If you really want to know the pros and cons of a v-gate...look here. There are 41 pages in this archive of finely-tuned research by MOC expert members who know what they're talking about, sorta.

That was a cruel, cruel path to send a poor unsuspecting new member down Robbie! As Gomer would say, "Shame, Shame, Shame!!"

Well, I just gave him a taste of the archives. Sometimes using the search engine gives you plenty of answers....and if the OP can't find the answer in those 41 pages, we COULD supply him with some new information.....and opinions.....you never can stop helping those less informed ones with research and pertinent information.

I, for one, would like to WELCOME you to the forum! I personally use the OEM tailgate as I think the V gates are ugly.

As I stated in those pages 6 years ago - I have a tonneau cover and I use my tv approx 70% for daily driver. I like the security - such as it is and the privacy of the oem gate. Next year GM is going with those "easy open" (read: extra equipment to disengage) tailgates. That will make it even harder to remove the oem gate...

I'm with Dick, each to his own. I don't think there is an advantage, really. They look kinda cool, but I gave up on looking cool a long, long time ago. My tailgate is fine, at least 'til I forget a couple of times.

I have been removing the OEM tailgate for as long as we have been towing. Don't care about security as nothing is in the bed anyway except the hitch. Have it padlocked and tarp covered. To me, just having the tailgate there is a pain to deal with that is un-necessary. The tailgate camera just unplugs easily and then the tailgate just lifts off. Lately, I have just been using a net when I need to retain firewood etc. Besides, that 80 pounds can be replaced by another 80 pounds of junk I don't need.

You have to be carefull not having a tailgate all the time and just using a Net I did that for years in my old truck and I noticed the bed would Flex and it was harder to get the tailgate on after a while the tailgate acts like a "brace" for the Bed,NO big deal just something to consider

Agree with security, I can lock my tailgate and nobody knows what I have under my bedcover.

If it is locked then there is something worth stealing inside.

That's what I had, too. I liked the idea of covering the bed (and the hitch) once in the CG.
