We have a crew cab with an 8' bed, and it's a LONG truck! Still, I wouldn't want it any other way.

We have a CC with a long bed. I park a long way from the store & walk. It takes 2 spaces for me to park. Love the truck & I need the walk.

We’ve had an extended cab and now have a crew cab dually. Ours has the 8’ bed also and I wouldn’t want it any other way. The dually don’t bother me and the only dis-advantage I can see is the turning radius. You simply need more room for maneuvering around.

We have EC dually, back doors are inconvenient, Next one will be CC dually. We are MOCCER's, we need big trucks and IMHO they are a necessary part of our greater good life style. Park where you can. Larry

Ours was a CC and long bed. When you have a truck that big, what's a few more inches.

On another note, my experience and opinion is that with a longer towing unit you have better stability. I couldn’t imagine trying to pull a large unit with a very short wheel base. I know someone who was towing a large trailer with a Tahoe (bad combination IMO); on their way home after picking it up in Indiana new. He was in a bad accident and it destroyed the camper and I doubt there was much left of the vehicle after it rolled. The guy made it ok but he hasn’t towed a camper since to my knowledge.

One thing that nobody mentioned about the long bed is that it usually has a bigger fuel tank, or atleast they use to have larger tanks. I wanted an 8' anyway and the extra 10 gallons of fuel over a short bed was icing on the cake.

CC / dually diesel = stability... Also as Patton said, let the other SOB die for his size?lol... Size not a problem... Lack of it, is !
Seriously now, after trying the.other.combinations, the CC/ dually/8' is the best to drive and for parking, I also use 2 or 4 spaces... And the.walk is good...!!!
As far as the bed length... there is never enough room.... Where else can
you put the Jacuzzi?

I find it interesting that people claim better stability with a dually, but I've never seen anything to back up that belief. We've been from Maine to Alaska and many points in between with our single rear wheel and I've never encountered a situation where I thought the truck was unstable or lacked stability. Duals provide a larger foot print, but the springs, axles, shocks and truck frame are all the same. In an extreme situation where someone encountered enough downward force on one end of the axle to lift the other side off the ground, perhaps the dually would perform better, but I avoid those situations.
Besides, as I've said before, I don't need a truck with training wheels.

I've towed the same 5er with SRWs and DRWs. The SRW vehicle seemed to get the rig up to speed faster (truck weighs 1500lbs less) but from the seat of my pants....the DRW gives a better ride and feels alot more stable. Bigger foot print does have an advantage. Plus having the greater payload capacity means I can consider an addition 50 gallons of fuel carried in the bed. JMHO

The 2011 GM 3500HD SRW SB now has a 36 gallon tank as standard equipment.
