Another Landing Gear Question

We have a 2003 Montana 5th wheel 32 foot. Landing gear will not lift front of trailer when loaded. Makes a "ratcheting" noise and won't move even using the handcrank. Works fine with no load. Dealer says possibly overloading as underside storage and front closet are in front. We have put on one new motor so far and now after using it no more than 6 times are having the same problem. We don't feel we are overloading it but do take a lot of things when we go to Florida for the winter. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks.

Ouch! A new motor only lasted 6 times? I'm guessing that you should be able to raise your trailer by the hand crank, regardless of the weight. If that's not possible, that's where I'd start looking, and before I put in another motor. Let us know what problems you find.

Thanks. We'll mention this to the dealership where we are having the trailer repaired. We're going to Alaska shortly and would rather not have problems with that.

I'm not an expert on this but doesn't the motor gear drive the tubes up and down with the tubes having matching teeth? Or maybe there's a ribbon with teeth? I would guess the teeth are partially stripped. I just don't know whether it's on the motor side or the tube side. As I said, I'm not an expert. I'm just relaying what I think I was told awhile back. It might be worth a closer look.
