Wi-Fi antenna source

I ran across this site, looks like they can communicate with Wi-Fi dummies like me. I asked them for more information on interface connections with my computer. The Parabolic looks like what I may need for South Padre, as I have water on 3 sides and a remote signal on one side.
I think I will get a lightning arrester for the co-ax, any thoughts on this?

Ozz, they have a good array of antennas, although the prices seem a bit high. That full parabolic may be overkill for your application, especially if the source isn't too far away and is line of sight.

A lightning arrester, especially in Texas, is always a good idea, as is a good ground system. Check out www.polyphaser.com for information and products. They make first rate equipment and don't use magic.

My source is about a mile or maybe a mile and a half. Do you think I should consider another type?

Ozz, if it's a commercial operation (meaning a fair amount of power), then a small, omnidirectional antenna ought to work fine; just get it up above your trailer and any low-lying obstructions. If it's a low power operation (the campground or another camper) then the yagi ought to be enough, and it will be a lot less attention getting (also, a lot less expensive).

Thanks, Bob. It is a commercial application fairly high on a building.
I would prefer something that is not so picky as to zeroing it in.

One of those links I sent talks about using an old PrimeStar elliptical dish. Sometimes you can still see these around where no-one ever removed them. I bet they'd be glad to get rid of it for free removal!!
