Molding Strip between the front cap and body

I need to replace a small section of the molding strip on the bottom by the pin box, but I don't want to replace the whole strip. Any suggestions?

The place I might start is an auto trim shop. When splicing the molding, I am sure your know to taper the splice so that the water does not run into it , rather over the splice point. There are probably better ideas out there.
