Gen Prep

Anybody know if the Gen Prep option includes prewire for the remote start switch inside the coach?

If so- where is it located for the 3400RL?

Just debating whether this is a do it myself or Dealer job to install the EGEN.

I don't know about the 3400, but in my 3685 it's in the livingroom (front of the camper...would be your bedroom) in the right hand closet right next to my television poer booster button.

Mine is pre wired but I don't have a gen installed. The remote start switch is in the bedroom closet.

Brad,
I don't know about the 3400RL, but our 3000RK came generator prepped and the remote starter for the genset is not only remote, but wireless remote. It's on the same RC that works the DVD player, the automatic antennae, the romantic light dimmer, the automatic self levellers, and the electric awning!!!

All kidding aside Brad, ours is supposed to be gen prepped, but the only thing I can find, is a knockout where the generator is supposed to set. I have not found any wires, anywhere, that even LOOK like they should go to a generator. I honestly don't know what " Generator Prepped " means!

I have some sort of electrical box (isolator?) in the box opposite where the gen would sit. Also there is some sort of electrical box with two push buttons (like reset). These were not in the un-prepped 2955 I had.

We have the Onan 5500 and we have two remote starter buttons. One is in our bedroom closet and the other is on the stairwell wall. We wanted to have a switch right by the light switches. We really love the Onan! It runs everything and it is so quiet!

Lonnie - you silly guy!! You started to get me all happy when I heard about the remote!!! That would actually be good as I want something by the door instead in the front closet. I don't want to have to climb over the bed just to start the egen with the slides in like I do now.

yvonnenid, Did you have the switch by the stair installed at the factory, dealer, or did you run it yourself?? That would be ideal.

Our 03 (early) came with the Gen Prep option. That included a transfer switch, circuit breaker and the wiring to the remote switch and hour meter under the bedroom TV. I think it may have also included the gen mounting brackets in the front curbside compartment and the metal cover there. Plus the bottom was also cut out of that compartment (a little crudely).

I installed a Onan Microquiet 4000 myself. The only problem I ran into was that the mounting brackets welded in that compartment were not in the correct location, or not the correct brackets, and I had to do quite a bit of filing to get the holes to match. Otherwise, it was a very simple hookup to the batteries and the circuit breaker in the battery compartment. It IS a very tight fit.

Works great. Just used it as a ememrgency power source during the last smow storm when we lost power for for about 11 hours.

Sorry Brad, but there was no way I could let THAT one go by.

Thanks Russ,

We had the egen installed before I picked up our 03 2955RL, so I really never knew what was prep, and what was actually installed with the egen. I assume a ventilation grille still needs to be cut in the front cabinet, as I noticed they don't have that on the prepped 2007's.

My 3295 also Gen preped had the control in the closet beside the TV preamp control.
Good luck.

Brad,
The vent on front compartments are not required, the gen-set pulls it's fresh air in from the bottom, which will be cut out once installed.
