3750FL MorRyde box and bed rail clearance
I'm picking up our new 3750FL Big Sky in a couple of weeks. I've been reading of some issues with the MorRyde pin box hitting the bed rails in a sharp turn, and now I'm concerned. I understand there are a couple of pin boxes, "extended" and so on, I have no idea what is coming on our 5er, or the dimensions, like pin center to box end.
Can anyone give me a clue whether I need to be concerned? TV is an '09 GM 2500HD, 18K superglide with the 3 inch lift kit. The hitch plate, when level, is a little below the bed rail height.
Thanks, Larry

I don't think you need be concerned! I have an F250 and have never had a problem and have never had to use my sliding hitch (and I have a short box). My hitch plate is about the same position relative to the bed rails as yours appear to be. Provided that your hitch plate is more or less centered on your rear axle, your 79 degree maximum turn shouldn't bring the MorRyde close to your rails.

That's encouraging, thanks. What are you referring to when you say 79 degree maximum turn? Why couldn't it go 90 degrees with a slider? I understand the hookup angle is restricted to like within 15 degrees of straight, but not aware of any turning limits, up to 90 degrees of course.

I have a 2010 3665RE with the MorRyde. Pulled with a 2005 F350 SRW, 18 inch wheels, and now with a 2011 F350 dually with 17 inch, and no problems with either.

You should have no issues. I have the same set-up other than an 08 Chevy.

Thanks again guys. I took a beating over on "the other" board over this question and never got a decent answer, only criticism.
Good to hear your setups work 06 and boje. I'm not familiar with the pin box design, but if yours (boje) clears on a tight turn, no reason I shouldn't.

X2 on the 2010 3665RE only ours is with a Dodge Short Bed. No problems at all. We have a 20K Reese slider and I don't use the slider at all. Bed clearance is more than adequate. One thing to remember if the "other forum" is the same one I'm thinking about. Most of the regular posters on that forum have heavy duty trucks and feel the need to defend their purchases. Not saying their wrong, just that we all believe we've made the right decision and will defend it.

Thanks DQ. What irritates me was the poster criticizing me had virtually the same TV, his 5er had the exact same pin weight and the shipping weight is under 200 #'s difference. Also, his response was not a part of my question, yet he had the nerve to tell me I have a bigger, more serious problem, that my rig is WAY overweight. A little ice water over my head and I'm OK, ha!

I would watch it. Chevy's seem to be prone to that problem. BiL bought a new 3402 and when jack knifing into a tight spot put a big gouge into the side of the box. Measure from the center of the King Pin to the back corner of the hitch box, then measure the width between your bed rails, now cut that if half. If that distance is more than measured on the Pin Box you're ok, it it's not beware. I know that both my 05 3500 and this 11 3500 the pin box length is approx an inch more that the box width.

Assuming you have the normal 5-6" clearance between the bed rails and the trailer, you shouldn't have a problem. The pin box hitting the rails is usually when you have a tonneau cover and its frame/rails extend into the bed enough to catch the edge of the pin box.

I would love to know that measurement, but have no resource within many miles to find one to measure, then not sure if all MorRyde pin boxes are the same.
Geez, I'm like a roller coaster here. If anyone has that measurement, pin center to pin box corner, I would really appreciate it. My bed width, inside rails is actually 5-3" and the surface of the hitch plate is 2 1/2 inches below the top of the bed rails when level.
I'm also curious what the distance is from the mounting surface of the pin box to the underside of the extension, it appears to be around 3 or 4 inches from pictures I see.
Thanks to all of you...Larry

My MorRyde pin box is the model RPB72-1716, I went out and measured from the back of the pin box to the center of the pin and its 32 inches.
My Dodge has a 64 inch wide bed with black vinyl bed rail covers which have gouges where the pin box has hit it.
But, I was backing up a hill on an angle in the snow, so you will have to check it and just be aware it cold happen if your model is the same as mine.

Great, thanks Tom. I'm thinking the box will be a few inches longer to the outer corners, so.....I'll just have to wait and see. Might be a chance my hitch is high enough being 2 1/2 inches below the rail tops, it will raise the arm of the pin box over the rail.
Backing up hill, in the snow? We just moved to Texas last year from over 40 years in Alaska, I can feel your pain, ha!
Thanks, Larry

Larry,
Your Welcome.
WOW, over 40 years in Alaska, I cant imagine....
I have the PullRite 20.5 Super hitch and have it all the way up. I am just a little nose high on the camper, but feel its OK. At least its OK so far.
Good luck.

Thanks again Tom. I'm not sure what you mean by having the Superglide all the way up, mine has no adjustment, except for the 3 inch lift kit underneath the hitch, but then mine is the 18k.
Yeah, I miss Alaska but not the snow and ice. My oldest boy and daughter still live there, one in Wasilla the other in Anchorage. They remind me of the cold from time to time. I keep them up to date when the pool is warm enough to get into...ha ha. Heck, we were 80 degrees the other day!

Hi Larry,
What I meant was that my pin hitch plate will move up or down to adjust the height. Here is a picture of my hitch:
http://www.pullrite.com/images/S5_0800_expl.jpg
Notice the bolts at the top of the side brackets, they allow for the height adjustment.
80 degrees would be nice, we had snow today, but no accumulation, thank goodness.

Once its hooked up measure the clearance between the trailer and bed. If you have at least 8 inches you'll probably be fine. If not, adjust your hitch height by raising the pin box up. I like good clearance so raised mine the maximum. I ended up with a little over 9 inches.
