BB_TX,
If you think Texas Concealed Carry Permit requirements are strict, take a look at New York state. I'm glad I live in Colorado, a "shall issue" state.

Many sleep well because some stand ready to do whatever it takes to protect them.

In the community we live in we recently moved in to a new city hall. One of the discussions after just moving in was if a CHL holder would be allowed to carry in the building. The old law did not allow a CHL holder to carry a weapon in a building where government meetings are held. The police chief was asked on his opinion on the subject. His reply was that statistically CHL holders commit crimes at the same rate of licensed police officers, less than 1%. In the 15 years the state has been issuing CHL licenses only 1 CHL holder has been arrested in our community (pop 42,000) for a violent crime and that crime did not include a weapon.

If you ever go to the Texas State Capitol you will see 2 lines when you enter the door. 1 line resembles a TSA check point like in the airport with x-ray machines and metal detectors. The 2nd line is for CHL holders. If you walk up to the CHL line and present your CHL, the DPS officer will swipe it to make sure it is current. If current he will hand it back to you and tell you to enjoy your visit to the State Capitol. No searches, no hassles, much faster.

Like having a preapproved background check. Don't know if all states require such a background check or not for CHL or CCW.

In California it is called a CCW and it is up to the county Sheriff who gets one.It requires 6 hour class, qualify with each gun, finger print and background check. It is good for 2 years. You can`t carry a gun that is not on your CCW permit.
