G614 tires & TR6 wheels

I'm thinking strongly about putting Goodyear G614 tires on my original TR6 wheels. We have a 2008 Montana 3400. I've read most of the posts on the subject and didn't see any problems. My question is, has anyone had any kind of problem with this combination? Phil

They are stamped TR6 but there are no air pressure limits stamped on the back of my wheels. They are only stamped with "3500 lb max load".

I put G614s on my 2008 OEM wheels near 4 years ago. We have put many thousand miles on that combination without issue. No hesitation, pull the trigger.

I've been running G614s on my Tredit Chinese TO4 wheels (stamped rated for 110psi) for a year now and have about 10K on them. Had to replace one valve stem as it would leak from my 102psi setting down to 92psi and stop there. It was just leaking around the bottom seal where the double nut is. On the Tredit wheel subject; had to replace one soon after getting the trailer a year ago as it had a pin hole leak. Would lose a few pounds a month, but since I check them regularly, it kept showing up lower than the others. Tredit took care of replacing the wheel quickly.

BUT... the wheels are made in China! I worked for Alcoa for a 30year career and they make high quality US made, "forged" wheels. If I had the older China TO6 wheels and wanted G614s, I would spring for the Alcoa wheels! They make a Classic in our 7"x16" size.

I hope you enjoy your new skins from the safety standpoint. My G614's will be delivered on Tuesday in the back of my friendly UPS truck. I have Steel spokes on my 2002 3295RK but down the road might look at the replacing them with aluminum wheels. When pricing the 614's I found the they were anywhere from $250.00 to $425.00 each. Since the large pricing difference with the tires did you researched the best for pricing for the new wheels? I like the idea of Alcoa wheels!

Paperheart, be sure your TR6 wheels are STAMPED on one of the inside spokes as being rated for 110psi and 3750 lbs. The earlier TR6 wheels, such as on my '06, ARE NOT RATED for the additional pressure and weight.

15 months on our G614's on our stock TR6 rims with the factory-applied sticker. No problems and they hold pressure very well. Total mileage on the tires is probably just a little less than what Phil P reported on his. I'd have to go out to check my mileage log to know for sure.

I've been running 614's on my 2008 3400 for over 2 years now with no problems and of course my wheels are TR6's.
Their we're no stamps or stickers on my wheels, but I have a letter from Tredit stating that the TR6 wheels we're certified.

Re-reading Paperheat's original post, he mentions his are stamped for 3500 lbs but have no stamp for the psi. Mine say 3750 lbs, which makes me wonder if his maybe are not rated for 110 psi. Anyone know about that?

Hi

Look up the Goodyear tire inflation chart. You will find the G614 can be operated at 90 Psi. with a load of 3415 Lbs and 85 Psi with a load of 3300 Lbs. The wheel I think is rated for 80 Psi.

Go to a truck scale and see what you axel weights are then check the inflation chart and see if you can operate at 80 Psi.

And the saga goes on with these TR6 wheels, I have the TR6 wheels rated at 3500 lbs. ,and have the G614's at 95 psi in them with about 7K on them. No problems so far. Recently found out on this forum they are NOT rated for 110 psi , same place that I was told about 18 months ago that the TR6 was rated for 110 psi. The best way at this point if one is concerned or in doubt is contact Tredit. and hear it from the horses mouth. I believe a TR6 wheel is a TR6 wheel ,and if some were rated at 3750 ,and 110 psi. they all should be IMO, and that is all that is worth, my opinion. I will stick with them at this point. If I had known at the time my rims were not rated for 110 psi. I would have switched to 17.5 knowing that I needed new rims anyway. The cost would have been about the same.

I chickened out and decided against putting G614 tires on the TR6 wheels. Yesterday I called Tredit in Elkhart about new wheels. They said for Moc. members the cost of the T02 is $65 a wheel. I then drove to Tredit, which is 40 miles from my home in Warsaw, to buy the wheels. Total cost for the 4 wheels, 4 center caps and 4 high pressure metal valve stems was $310 including tax. Cindy and Mark at Tredit were wonderful to work with and couldn't have been nicer. I had previously checked the area for G614 prices. Smith Tire in Warsaw was the lowest at $280 a tire. The best part is they would give me $360 trade in allowance for my old tires and wheels. They also had a used but like new G614 they would trade even up for my old spare. Out of pocket cost for the 5 G614 tires was $840 including tax. I just got home from Smith Tire and the camper is in the driveway setting on G614 tires and T02 wheels. Total cost of both was $1150. Thats a lot of money but I think it's worth it for the safety and peace of mind. So like they say, "I'm a happy camper". Next week we are going on vacation to Aloha State Park in Michigan. I'm happy with my decision. Thanks for everyone's comments. Phil

Sounds like you got a good deal! The $280 per tire can be beat but probably not after factoring in the trade in value of the old tires and the swap on the spare. I sure wouldn't complain about that deal. And I can tell you I also ride a lot more comfortably knowing those G614's are back there.
