off the email
Today I got an email from Harbor Freight advertising a Mother's day sale. I had to laugh. I have been married near 51 years, but if I bought Dianna something from Harbor Freight for mother's day, I would be labeled as an insensitive slug. What duffus, who cares about his wife and his marriage, would buy his wife tools for an occasion focused on her?

That is funny and a coincidence Stiles, I got the same e-mail and immediately told DW about it and asked if she wanted to go to Harbor Freight for Mother's Day. I think the bruises will go away in a couple of days!!!

OK here's one for you......my DH has been known to buy "himself" tools for my birthday.....so perhaps the person at Harbor Freight went to the same training as my darling husband, eh????

I once worked with a guy who was notoriously frugal, to the point of being downright cheap. He had a habit of buying gifts for his wife, for gift giving events, that they both want rather than something she particularly wanted. After a number of years she caught on. For Christmas he got her this deluxe 35mm camera. So, she declared that this gift is HERS and he's not using it. Period. I can't understand why he was so upset.

I once got a lawn mower for Mother's Day. That's all I'm going to say.

My DW tries to hide the flyers from Harbor Freight when they come in the mail ... a good plan but my longtime friend from across the street always brings his over to discus the next shopping trip to HF!

I bought Louise a belt sander one year for her birthday. It was a long time ago but I think we laughed about it, at least I did.

Got to tell you Helen would love that. Asked her what she wanted for her birthday one year and said a table saw. Over the years she has asked for and got Dremel tools , set of sockets and various tools. She isvery habdy. This mothers day I beat her to the punch as I heard he say she would like to have a Nook so I got one for her..she was thrilled.

I knew my post would stir the pot. Helen is the exception not the rule. As a marriage counselor, I had a number of couples to work with where stuff like this was a major issue. The poor guy never got it. He didn't have a clue. I must admit that early in my marriage to a very patient wife, I didn't have a clue either. Sometimes I still miss the point........but so does she.

Wise words Stiles, I learned very, very early in our marriage, that household appliances (mixers, vacuums, blenders, etc.) and any other of the sort were not acceptable for gifts of any kind on any occasion. Something about sentimental value has to enter into the decision combined with personal thought.

I am told of a gentleman that got his wife a "household" tool box for Mothers day some time back. She used those nice tools to install a combination lock on the bedroom door. Do you know how many possible combinations there are to a 4 wheel combination lock?

Reminds me of DW's brother that passed at the young age of 39. He once bought my mother-in-law a pail full of sponges and cleaning supplies for Mother's Day. He got to clean house the rest of the day!

Helen is a fan of Harbor freight. We go over there at least once a year. Forgot about the drill press she wanted and a jig saw. She has her own tool box. She had a radiator sprng a leak in her car and I said OK we will take it to a radiator shop and she said .I will do it mayself...She replaced the radiator.
