Slide Out Blowing 15A Fuses!!

Went out on our first weekend trip of the season this weekend and when we arrived and tried to put the slides out NOTHING! Checked the 12v fuses and sure enough found a blowing 15A fuses. The red light was on above the fuse. Tried another fuse and blew another fuse. Finally got the tools out and removed the panel that the slid rocker switch is attached to and:
1. Found the crimped quick connect was crimped so hard that the insulation was damaged, and
2. A burn spot on the copper ground wire in one of the wire bundles jammed in behind the panel.
Taped the connector and all worked afterwards. I could not believe the length of the screws they used to attach the panel to the wall with all the wiring running behind the wall at that point. The sharp ends of the screws were rubbing the wire bundles. So it looks like another project…replacing the screws with shorter ones and seeing if the wires can be moved such that they are not in contact with the screws.
We love our 1 year old 3400RL and have not had any major problems, but these little things that keep coming up just point to poor QA. I know…there is no QA in the RV industry. But come on, screws running into wire bundles…how unsafe.

Fire5er,
I hope you documented it all with pictures and send it all to Keystone. To bad there isn't some watch-dog outfit you could send it to.

Good fix. A guy just has to be handy with these trailers. I'm sure they all are the same, cheap materials, parts and put together quickly with minimal oversight.
